I use a 6' piece of 1/2" re-rod welded a 1/8"x 3"x 4" plate 6" from bottom to make a T, weld a 3/4" washer on the top. The plate stops the beaver from spinning the rod and lets them wrap the snare on the rod. I like to make the set in at least 2' of water. I wire 2 snares apposite each other so they are half out of the water. I use 3 loops of 14ga. wire, to hold the snares on the rod. For bait I use 1/2 ear of fresh corn, or fresh maple twigs the size of your small finger, with the bark scraped off. Wired about 4" above water level. With this set-up you can catch every beaver in your area.
