It's been an on again, off again thing for me the last year
and a half. Wanted one so bad at first, I'd have sold my soul
for one, but not one to be had. Then came a substitute along
in 9.3x74, and never regretted it a minute. Would have never
experienced that caliber otherwise, and it has become a favorite.
But back to the H&H, noticed some listed as in stock
at a dealer other day, and though I was not really wanting to
pony up the bucks at this exact moment... I said to myself
it may be now or never and took the plunge. I went and picked
it up at the FFL during lunch, and barely had time to look it over before dashing home to stow it and get back.
Looks like I did not hit the wood lottery, definitely average. Not straight grain, nice color, but not nearly as fancy as my 9.3. Oh well, can't win 'em all smile
I'll try to get some pics up as I get a chance.

Good for you. 300 H&H IMO is a real pratical caliber. 110 gr bullets to 220 gr. I settled on 168 gr Barnes bullets and 200 gr Speer Grand Slams to hunt with. I hope I don't wear my barrel out I shoot it about every time I go out. To me, it don't kick any more than a 30/06. I found a lot of loading data in Ken Water's pet load book.I'm working on a cast bullet load useing a 150 gr.gas check bullet with 25.0 gr.'s of 2400 powder. My old lyman manual say I should get about 2000 fps with this load.

You'd still recognize it, esp. Booneville. Of course wally
world has moved a couple times, but about the only big thing
I can think of different is Hwy 45 now by-passes to the West,
not as busy through town as years past. Oh, and they just got
stinkin' stupid ass "smart" traffic lights at about 2/3 of the
intersections, and they won't pick up my motorcycle and give
the green. Have to plan my route to miss them or else get stuck.

I am considering getting one myself. Just curious, but is "300 H&H" or "300 Holland and Holland" stamped on the barrel?

I know its a minor thing, but this is a classy rifle and would seal the deal for me. (Not that the stamping on the barrel is what is holding me back....)

Curse the meaningless intricacies of being a rifle loony. wink

I bought one in 300 H&H about three weeks ago. Shoots factory ammo anywhere between inch to inch and half. With handloads I'm getting less than inch. Very happy with mine.

Dang, small world eh? Imagine that.

I haven't shot it yet, but will be starting with reloads
from the get-go. I am having a (small) dilemma with getting brass at the moment, see my post in the reloading - big game
section on here if you're interested...

Might have to get together sometime and if you're feeling
daring, I'll letcha shoot my 9.3 with some good-god-amighty
loads. It'll rattle your teeth, but I love it.
