I have a large number of guns in my safe that I keep for investment or sentimental reasons, but do not shoot. Maintenance on these takes hours every month and I am looking for a long term storage solution. I have a dehumidifier in the safe already, but am looking for a protectant to put on the gun to protect them. Cosmoline is out because of how hard it is to get off. Any recommendations?

Cheaper Than Dirt has gun storage bags pretreated that would not put you through all of the intensive labor coating in cosmo an subsequent removal (yuk). Otherwise, they also have tubes or you can make your own out of PVC pipe. If space was a consideration, I'd put them in the storage bags that are made specifically for that purpose.

You can vacuum pack them with a food saver. Just buy a roll and cut it to length.

anti-rust paper. Wrap your guns. Come back in a year or so and do it again. Apply protective oil film of your choice prior to initial wrapping and you're good to go for years. Anti-rust paper provides a vapor barrier. Shorter rolls are available. http://www.uscarton.com/VCI-Paper-Products-p/vci3635-bpc.htm
