Can I send my hunting rifles in advance of my arrival? If so, how do I do it? or who offers the service? I'll be doing a bare bones trip with PH there and I want to have a layover in Europe for 2 days. If I do that I must have the rifles and clear them in Europe and then carry them while there and then further onto Africa. I'd rather just ship them early and then return them when done.

it would be nice but they don't allow it....besides, you would miss the chinese firedrill that is the gun check in at J'burg airport...kinda a right of passage.....

As you surmise, dragging an unlicensed firearm around Europe is not to be recomended. If you are going to combine a Euro-holiday with hunting Africa, then I would suggest renting a rifle from your outfitter. Virtually all will have one available.
