I've not yet seen a 308 that gives Nosler's reported velocities when fired across one of my Oehlers.

The boys are making great headway upon the merits of scratching the 308 and '06 both, from a list of anything bordering upon serious consideration.
Though I reckon it ain't on purpose.....................(grin)

I'm still using the #4. Maybe we should both think about getting the newer version Yeah, over the years I've thought about purchasing a newer version, but there isn't any point into rushing into something....

Your right bigstick, the 06 is the most boring cartridge on the planet. It still has a place in the hearts of many though
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Pass the 7-08 and hold the fluff....... As I hear it commonly stated.. I don't dislike the 308 and have owned several. But, I've realized that the best thing about the .308 is the donor opportunities.

I like the .308 Winchester well enough, just not quite enough to get excited over it.
It's offspring, however, are a different story! Love the .243, .260, 7mm-08 and .338 Federal!
What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

It shoots well, plenty of ammo available, generally isn't picky about what you feed it, super easy to reload for, easy on brass, great components, rifles available from fat to skinny...and most importantly it kills well. I like it.

Im not a fan of any rifle that doesnt kick so hard I wish I hadnt shot it, or sub MOA groups, the ease of reloading, the million rounds I can shoot before I wear out the barrel, the ability to cleanly kill anything out to 800+ yards. Yea the 308 really sucks!

If you could own only one rifle it would be hard to the 308 Win . I have four rifles chambered in 308 and just purchased a new 308 Reamer to build myself another. I guess you could say i hate the 308
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I don't hate the .308, it's excellent in the M-60 and M-14 that it was designed for.

I love the .308. My only problem with the .30-06 is that they didn't make the Sav 99 in long actions. I have most all the calibers mentioned, except the .260. The .308 seems to always get my nod for deer.
