Been wanting one of these for a while, and I've *almost* bought one sitting on the shelf of the local cabela's on about 8 different occasions. They want $1k.

I didn't go into the place to buy anything, but just to look around. Then I saw it.

S&W model 41 in pristine shape, used. They were asking 799- i asked if they could do better, and they came down to 750. It comes with all the original paperwork and 2 mags. I decided I couldn't pass it up.

I took it directly to the range and discovered what everyone has been talking about. This gun is a piece of art. It was a pleasure to shoot! I wish the cheap remington ammo I bought functioned as well as the gun. There were about 5 duds in that box of 100.

The trigger is a masterpiece! It breaks perfectly- probably the best I've ever used, especially for a stock gun.

My only complaint (and its a small one) is the safety. It's kind of a rinky dink lever and a couple of times my hand must have bumped it and I couldn't pull the trigger until I pushed it all the way down again.

Overall, I'm stoked at the future me and my three young boys will have with this gun. Yes, the flip side of the coin is that I'll be selling my FN 5.7 that I love, but I think it's a good trade. I'll shoot this one much more.

Very sweet piece. I have shot one several times and they truly are a wonderful, heart warming gun to shoot. You and the boys will love it more each time you shoot it. Congrats.

Very nice. When I bought mine I finally knew what a fine 22 pistol was.

Only a few comments;
1) Even though I'm more a High Standard guy, I can appreciate workmanship when I see it--NICE SCORE!

2) Only 5 duds out of 100 with Rem ammo? Amazing-- The shooting Gods were really with you that day--that or clean living! grin

3) The Smith recommended ammo and the ammo they test them with when sent in for repairs is CCI Std. Vel. ammo--$24.95 per brick at Dicks if you have one near you.
Never ANY duds
Burns really clean, minimizing fouling and cleaning chores
Pretty accurate
Not too much money
Easy to come by for consistency.
Fed. 711B is another good choice.

I'd take my Model 41 before I'd take a dozen FN 5.7's. Good score!

Great grab, but Swampy will be along any minute to tell you about how his Sauer and sons West German Made single action 22 is the best ever, and that Remington ammo CANNOT be the culprit, must be the cheap gun.....

Sweet shootin iron. Congrats.

You got the best there is. Congrats.
On the older pistols, there was an appendage on the safety lever that locked into a recess on the slide when you flipped it up.
I've shot all kinds of .22 ammo. in mine over the years, and that pistol shoots real damn good with all of em'.
Now you need to get another one with a 5 and 1/2" heavy!

Heck of a buy at that price. I recently acquired one just like it and it has quickly displaced almost all my other 22lr handguns.
