Anybody know the weight on a LA boat paddle stock off the top of your head? Scale has schit the bed.

I believe I have a spare one in the shop. I'll go look and weigh it on the scale. I do know they are lighter than the Ruger LA wood stocks, as I had replaced an African wood stock with a boat paddle and it knocked off a good chunk of weight. Give me about 15minutes and I'll be back.

These weights may be a bit skewed because my stock has been coated with an acid etch base along with a 2-part textured epoxy finish. Not sure how much that adds.

The base stock with all hardware less pad is 28-oz
With thin factory pad 31-oz
With adapter plate and heavier Limbsaver pad 33-oz
With adapter plate, heavier Limbsaver and mountain sling 36-oz

Being that the Edge stock is a bit fragile, you cannot get an Edge McMillan with the Ruger due to the angled recoil lug. Therefore a standard fill McMillan will save you no weight over the paddle stock. In addition, I believe the paddle stock to be one of the strongest, if not the strongest, stock made. They are just about indestructible with an excessively stiff forend. If the stock fits you, they are about the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to a hard use wilderness stock that can withstand the most extreme abuse. Ugly as sin, but they work.

Best smile

I'm debating picking up one of those 9.3x62 Africans when they are available. Chop the barrel down to 20-22" depending on balance, and sticking it in my spare paddle stock. Figured that would make a heck-for-stout work-horse do-all-rifle.

Post a pic of it when you get it together. I've been amassing .338win stainless rifles for a while now. Gotta send a few out for new tubes.

338win stainless is my daughter's rifle. That was until I took it from her and coverted it to a Chatfield-Taylor.

I agree with everything except the "excessively stiff forend". Not sure there is such a thing, but one reason I have three such stocks is their nearly indestructible nature and stiff forend.

Took this pair elk hunting las fall and checked them out at the range just before I left. Both MKII's, .300WM on top, .30-06 on bottom. 5 shots combined total, 2 dead clay pigeons at 600 yards, one each. The "boat paddle" stocks don't seem to have any negative effect on accuracy.

We lament daily the tragedy of your arm not being firmly chained to said stock on it's journey to Davy Jones locker.

You're slap azz ate up with the dumbass. If being a lame [bleep] was a job, you'd be ready to retire with full benefits and get the gold watch to boot. If you liked cock (which I'm sure of), you'd prefer the blue whale's over all others.

Good job!

Some people wouldn't know a good thing it if hit them between the eyes. You appear to be one of them.

There are good reasons for disliking the boat paddle stocks on the basis of aesthetics, but they rate very high when it comes to strength, durability and functionality - just like the actions that sit in them.

Both are unsuitable for serious hunters/shooters.

Arguing with this sumbitch is like fighting women, midgets, and retards. If you kick the schitt out of 'em you're the bad guy. If you get beat, still the bad guy.
