Im thinking about going with a DNZ mount for my 1895GS. I noticed that the mount only comes in Med or high. Any experience with the scope mount? good? bad? Any input would be appreciated.
thnx

Good question... I am also considering the DNZ and the Talley mounts for my 1895. Wish there was someplace where I could see pictures of both mounted on 1895 rifles, lol.... might help me decide. The important thing for me is that the mount keep the scope as low as possible to the barrel.

I've got Talley Mediums and a Leupold FX-II 2.5X20 Ultralight on my Guide gun. I apologize for picture quality, but there ain't but so much you can do with a point-n-shoot. The rings were pretty damned straight, but had only about 10% contact until I lapped them in, now they are near 100 percent contact with the scope. Center of bore to center of scope is 1.5".

Thanks Vic! Are those Mediums the lowest you think it can take?

You could probably go lower, but I was worried about hammer/ocular bell clearance. Looks like I have clearance, so I may try lower mounts. The stock I have on that rifle has a higher comb than a Marlin stock, so things line up pretty good like they are. I'm gonna run 'em awhile and see how they work out, and so far, it seems real natural, and the scope is right there when I bring the rifle up. I don't have to go looking for the scope, and that's what I aim for....

Yeah clearance is always a concern when installing a scope. It would be nice to see the look of the DNZ as well. I guess it just may be that its not as popular as the other brands.

Let me correct myself. Those Talleys are "lows", I am also in the middle of putting a scope on a Super Blackhawk. That's where the mediums came to mind.

Vic, you know that talley also has some extra low as well.

I saw those. I may give them a try in the future, just to see what they would be like, it's not a big deal to change them back if I don't like them. All's it would do is take a little shooting, which is not a bad thing.
I say "may" because the lows line things up pretty naturally. When I raise the rifle up, the sight picture is "right there". It may be hard to improve on it, though that scope is pretty forgiving.

I have the DNZ mount on my guide gun, medium I think, with a 2.5x20 leuppie. Seems to line up just perfect with my line of site, haven't spent any range time yet though.
