Anybody ever try these? I'm thinking about the "X-TREME" version in 55gr HP. Just wondering. Price looks good.

I have loaded and shot thousands of the basic 55 grain Varmint Nightmare in .223 and .22-250, but haven't tried the more expensive Extreme. My son has a couple of AR15s and the Midsouth bullets help us keep them running on the cheap. Accuracy is very good. The bullets cost only $40.05/500. BTW they are Hornadys. Not sure who mades the Extremes.

Haven't shot the X-treme but the regular Nightmare's shoot well from my 223 Vanguard. Can cover most three shot groups with a dime.

I shoot the 55gr X-Tremes out of my 22-250. Accuracy was right around 1/2"-3/4" range(5 shot). I'm not at home but I'm pretty sure I was using 33grs of Varget for that load. The prairie dogs don't seem to share my enthusiasm for those bullets.

I got 2000 of the 50 gr varmint nightmares for plinking. With range pickup mixed headstamp 223 cases they'll group 1" or better for 5 shots at 100yds. I haven't tried to work up extreme accuracy loads, but for my intended use they've been great.

Well boys, this is encouraging. Might have to try a box or two in the old Savage 112. Just to see if they'll keep up with Sierra's I shoot. We shall see!

My experience with the Midsouth Varmint is only the base Varmint Nightmare (55gr) is a Hornady product, due to its secant ogive configuration; the Extreme series (50 and 55 SP, and the 55HP) all have the tangent ogive, typical of Sierra, Nosler, or Speer offerings.
The .17 and .20 cals Varmint Extremes are made by Nosler (yeah, hard to believe), so maybe the .224's are also?

Great buy regardless who makes them. Secant vs tangent ogive illustration in the link.

True dat, and if you shop carefully ( even at midsouth..) you can get the ones labeled Hornady a tad cheaper....

Yep Nosler I've bought them direct from Nosler as seconds.
