If I could removed the exposed part of the hammer on a Mod. 637 S&W would it still have enough weight to reliability fire the rounds? Thanks in advance for the help.

I thought there for a moment you had discovered a way to make a true "hammerless" pistol...

I can't say about your revolver, but I have "dehorned" two S&W revolvers in the past, a Mod 65 and a Mod 36 with no misfire issues.

The secret (if there is one) is to keep the mainspring screw tightened all the way down.

Years ago, I took a dremel tool and cut off the hammer of my model 36, it never has failed to fire. I bought an extra hammer as a replacement just in case.

PPC guys have bin doing it for years and they also lighten the hammer spring. I have done 4 myself no problems. You may want to round up a replacement just incase you want to sell it some day.

There is a youtube video of this from the midway guy. Shows a quick way to cut it off and then polish it with different attachments on a dremel. Good little video from Potterfield. Too bad his shipping and handling charges suck.
