4 giggles and cause it's winter and I'm bored I've been working with my 300 shorty mag quite a bit. Pat (Scenar) turned me onto 155 Scenars and with R17 along with 9 1/2M's and they perk really well.

So, I've been doing quite a bit of load work with it. In a PM with a couple others from the Fire the idea of ES came up.

So, I started to work with it, this isn't a big test but the beginning for sure. I'll share what I saw this weekend with same load but 4 different types of primers.

I used Win cases, 68 of R17 and the temp was mid 30's. I even weighed the cases (in grains)to try to get them as close as possible. Trying to eliminate ES possiblity's.

And for bullets I was using 150 Horn Bt's cause my private stash of Scenars is about gone... cry

*Load #1 using Fed 215
------------------------
Case #1 weighed 229.2= 3197
Case #2 weighed 229.9= 3205
Case #3 weighed 230= 3174

*Load #2 using Rem 9 1/2M
--------------------------
Case #1 weighed 229.5= 3137
Case #2 weighed 229.1= 3174
Case #3 weighed 230.4= 3174

*Load #3 using WLRM
---------------------
Case #1 weighed 230= 3197
Case #2 weighed 230.4= 3236
Case #3 weighed 230.3= 3197

Load #4 using Fed 210M
------------------------
Case #1 weighed 229.4= 3212
Case #2 weighed 229.1= 3189
Case #3 weighed 228.9= 3189

In regards to accuracy I only shot the 9 1/2 M's and 215's on paper and they both shoot...well very well!

Not sure what all this means, as I'm kind of drained from a long week/weekend.

Any thoughts?

Thx and have an Awesome week!

Dober

I don't know what any of it means Mark, but the 210M's look darn consistent at first blush and don't seem to give up anything to the Mag primers... that's a good thing as I have over 4,000 210M's on the bench laugh

Mark,

I tested some loads for my 270wsm this morning with RL17 and the 140gr Accubond. I have tested using CCI, Winchester, and Federal primers in standard and magnum.

The lowest extreme spreads for my 270wsm and RL17 have been with WLRM primers, go figure. Also I primer pocket uniform, and deburr all the flash holes, it does seem to help but I haven't run an experiment to confirm this.

My best load for the Accubond and RL17 this morning:

3194
3194
3202
3194

Accuracy was only tested at 300 yards, but out of the four 3 shot groups that I fired all were between 2.0 and 2.5 inches, with a moderate wind from right to left.

Mark,

To do a real primer test, you need to shoot at least 10 rounds of each load/primer combo, and 20 is better.

So get your lazy butt out of the chair and get back to the range!

Working on it, thx 4 the encourgement...grin

Have you noticed that a case will/would give higher speeds as it gets more loadings on it?

Yeah, I have noticed that. My theory is that slightly less energy is used in expanding the case. But who knows?

Work hardened brass, being less forgiving, boosts pressures... or so I've been told...
