Hurry up and buy it and then learn about it ! One fine hard hitting caliber for your neck of the woods. Had a 336ER 356 and really sorry that I sold it. Hits harder then the 35 Rem and just under the 358 Win. You can still find plenty of ammo for it on gunbroker.

My thoughts are buy it now! Inbetween a 35 Rem and a .358 Win as the other poster said, if you reload you can shoot light pistol bullets 125gr up to 220-250gr jacketed and heavy cast loads as well. I would snap that sucker up. www.marlinowners.com has much info
When I die I hope I don't start voting democrat.

There were only about 2500 of those made. Great round out to about 200 yards. Brass and ammo are not that hard to find.

If you don't reload, your choice of factory loads is 1, the Winchester/Olin 200 grain PP.
Since the Marlin 336 uses a spring steel extractor, you may be able to use rimless 358 brass, or ammo, just as well as the rimmed 356 brass or ammo, as long as you maintain the 356's COAL to insure that it will cycle through the action.
If it is under $500, buy it, 'cause you'll be able to get your $$ back out of it if you change your mind. If it is over $500, think about it some more and decide if you really want to commit yourself to an orphaned cartridge.

JEff Hmmn...I hadn't heard anyone suggest this. Please note: .358 Winchester is loaded commercially at higher pressures than .356. PC

And wasn't the Marlin in .356 discontinued due to pressure issues? I mean, it is weaker than a Win 94BB/AE action-wise.

Winchester/Olin 200 grain factory loads work fine through my 356.

Both 200 and 250 Winchester grain factory loads work fine in mine and I reload using the Speer manual and 220 grain Speer bullets at max manual loads without problems. 200 grain bullets are better for deer in my experience. I think the 220 grain Speer bullets would be better for elk than I have found them to be on deer.

BUY IT!!!!!if nothing else but for the action...it's primo for rebarreling. The "V" threads make the action stonger in the 336ER than in the square threaded 336.
The 356 and 358 are SAAMI'ed at the SAME pressure, 52KCUP...wish people would stop the "stuff"...but most cartridges for the Marlin 336 are loaded to 42KCUP or less
I have a 356 Jef Rebored 336 and I use 358 or 356 brass interchangeably in the magazine or ANY .473" size case resized in a 356/358 sizer and trimmed to correct size...***(you can use 444 M cases also trimmed back to 2.015", call it a 358 JDJ "Shorty", but don't tell anyone...it's a deep dark secret.)***
I also modified my 336 to handle 2.68" COAL. It shoots great with Speer 220g FN's.
Wish I had found that one first and you had a feather up your...and we'd BOTH be tickled... ;^ D...it's cheap at twice whatever the price is...
LUCK
