...with my left ankle aflame, so it seemed. I could not lift my foot or put weight on it without severe pain. I simply walked into the reception area, and told the lady, "all I want is a prescription for Indomethacin." She was taken aback, and said, "okay, but the big guy back there has to make that decision."
Damn good service. I was the only patient there, and I was literally checked out, scribed, and out the door almost before I was through filling out forms.
I explained to the doc (a big, friendly guy) that I'd previously had two bouts of this ankle pain in the past; that Uric acid tests for gout had come back negative, but the Indo had worked very well.
He told me something I didn't know, that there actually is a disease called pseudo-gout, which is caused by a different crystal building up in joints. No real tests for it, except maybe a biopsy - it is also treated with Indo. His bet is that's what I have.
Anyhow, it's throbbing like crazy at the moment, but hopefully by morning I will get some relief.

In your ankle, like around the Achilles area? Kinda like a burning sensation I'm betting?

I sure don't envy you gout, psuedo-gout, imagined gout, or mail ordered-gout; I watched my Grandfather literally be driven insane from the no-escape pain of that crippler.

In the past two episodes, yes around the Achilles. This time on the front of the ankle.

Keep it elevated as much as you can to get the swelling down. Easiest thing to do at night is to put a couple books or magazines under the legs at the foot of the bed to raise it up about 2". Keeps you elevated all night without kicking a pillow around.

tex n cal, I've had gout before in my left big toe joint. And it SUCKS! I've had one bout with that ankle stuff, but it wasn't near as bad as "regular" gout; went away in about two days, was still able to work OK. I feel for ya tho, crap hurts!

There is a herbal pill called Tart Cherry Extract,it reduces and keeps the Uric acid down.I have been taking this pill for a year now and have not suffered any gout symptoms.Mine were so severe at times that I could not even lay in bed with a sheet touching my foot.Extreme pain.I literally had to crawl on my hands and knees, just to go to the bathroom.

tex n cal - good to see you have great health service like that. You must not get yours free like we do... there's always a price to pay and free healthcare means you pay with posterior time whether your ankle is in pain or your eyeball is on the end of a bayonet.
Best o' luck on the speedy recovery. My Dad gets "the gout" about twice a year and just this winter Mom got it, too. Seemed to help her sympathy out some for him, too. Me, I'll just be sympathetic without having to experience it... that's my plan anyways.

Doc visit $175, the 30 Indo pills, another $75. My insurance hasn't kicked in yet, with the new job, so I paid out of pocket. And if it was twice as much, I would have paid that, too.
