Maybe I've been living under a rock and missed this information but I was told by a sporting goods clerk at Wal-Mart last night that ammunition prices were DOUBLING April 1st. Any truth to this? My wife and I were skeptical about this but figured you guys would know for sure.

How about components? Except for 22LR, I haven't shot a factory round in 20 years.

From Wideners: NOTICE:
Large price increases for all ammunition and components are coming in April and May 2011. Record high costs of primary metals such as lead and copper are cited as part of the reason.

For the 1st time in years, the local Walmart displayed guns. That lasted 2 weeks. They're gone now! Ammo was put under lock and key the day after the last Pres. election!

All chemical products will jump drastically this year. I work in the business and it is a direct result of the price of ....OIL. If it's not petroleum based, it's delivered by it.
You think the price at the pumps is high? You ain't seen nuthin yet!

they go up, they go down. Trick is to have enough of a buffer stocked at home, to be able to buy when it is convenient and at the best price.

Copper prices going back up.... I don't shoot much as I used to, but we used to get in on drop ships... Nosler has one for a club right now... the warning was get it now, its probably going to go up quite a bit quickly......
I'll have to assume that was correct.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

We sell guns and ammo at our Walmart. When the prices start going up I'll let you all know. We have had a hard time keeping ammo in stock. It sells fast. There has been a lot of demand for .45 and 9mm the most. And, when a gun sells, it's been slow replacing it.
We have seen items start to go up and we are changing labels everyday but there has been no real rush as of yet. Usually only one or two labels a day in the Sporting goods department. I'm sure that will change soon enough. kwg

Maybe I've been living under a rock and missed this information but I was told by a sporting goods clerk at Wal-Mart {snip} Take gun information from a chain store employee with a grain of salt. I was in the Vegas Bass Pro last week and charged some .223 ammo and Remington Core-Lokt .308 150 gr bullets on my CC. The guy at the register said, "Aren't Californians not allowed to buy ammo anymore?" I informed him that the law requiring face to face sales of HANDGUN ammo in CA was overturned by a judge as "unconstitutional." Spend 1/3 of your shooting budget on reloading supplies and bullet casting equipment. Sadly, even components are going up.

I heard through the grape vine (friend of a sporting goods dealer) that Remington was going to increase the price of ammo 8% as of April 1st and that everyone else would be following their increase.

I purchased 200 rds of .30-.30 ammo the other day for $16 per box
value of the dollar is headed down imo
anything that you use/need and has a good shelf life is a good bet imo
believe i'll stop in and buy the rest of what they have today
I like to have a minimum of 600 rds loaded for every cartridge I shoot
pm's and not so precious metals are a good place to have some $ parked. YMMV

So, I have about half a 55 gallon drum of of spent rifle brass. Time to go to the scrap yard? Nope - time to deprime and clean it, separate it by caliber, bag it in 100 rds per bag and sell it to reloaders. A little work, but you'll get more $ than taking it to the scrap yard.
