Looking for a good lefty rifle and the accumark and fibermark versions of the mark v are the only guns I am finding in an acceptable caliber (.300 weatherby) with good pillar or aluminum cradle bedding, good trigger and floated barrel from the factory. Nice hand laid synthetic stocks.

Savage offers the 116 weather warrior LH in .300 win with accustock, accutrigger but with a silly 24" barrel. Ugly gun, poor astetics.

I am liking the 8.75 lb weight of the weatherby also, I do not want to brake the gun, the short bolt throw is also nice.

Wish Remington made the sendero in LH but they do not. Seems I would be into a semi custom Remington with HS/Mcmillan stock at least the same cost.

Looks like the Mark V in fibermark or accumark form might be the perfect fit.

What is the general opinion of this gun from you guys that have experience with them?

Thanks.

I like Mark V's. I own em', I hunt with em', and I shoot em' at the range. There is nothing that I do not like about them. Mine are Japanese manufactured rifles. They are well made, accurate, look good, and they're solid performers.

A few weeks back, got a new 338-378 Accumark. With this round, a brake is certainly needed and preferred. A real sweet rifle.

A very smooth and one of the strongest actions in the biz with a 54 degree bolt lift, a factory floated barrel with very good bedding, a nice trigger, and a fluted barrel that just exudes the looks of power without even firing a shot. And it is very accurate too.

Imo and as is from the factory, there is nothing not to like with this rifle. As an open country hunting rifle suitable in any weather, the Accumark suits me just fine in all depts with no modifications needed.

If you wish for an Accumark, then I highly recommend one. An excellent factory rifle.

I own 1 Mark V, its a Deluxe 300 Roy. It has been one of the most accurate rifles I've owned. It shoots nearly everything sub moa but really shines with TSX bullets. This is a 168 at over 3300 fps

I have a 6 lug 270 winchester, its a very good action, I personally do not care for the stock, I cut the barrel to 22 inches as I woods hunt, its sub MOA with Nosler 130 seconds over RL22, its yours for $600 if you want it!

I've had and still have several of the 6 lug mark V rifles. Very nice, handle great, shoot fine (sometimes fantastic) and I like them. I wouldn't be scared to get more.

I like the Mark V in .300 Weatherby Magnum. They kick some for the caliber IMO. I'd like to have an American made version with the garish walnut stock.

Swamp,

You're way off the reservation, leading us to believe that you like Roy guns. No Green Box, and surely not a Remington...

Seriously, the Mark V is a very well made action, a big massive thing and heavy. I like the way my .257 Wby shoots and how the Mark V operates. Wby puts some high quality barrels on their rifles. I've never been a Wby fan for over 50 years as a gun nut, but now have this one .257 and it's a keeper.

I have only one Mark V a Sporter in 270 Wthby Mag.With a 24" barrel it handles max doses of IMR 7828 and 150 gr Horn SP's very well. Nothing not to like and have taken 3 of my largest whitetails with it. Allways wanted a 240 or a 300 never got around to it and probably won't cause the 270 would be an awful hard act to follow. I have owned a Japanese made MK-V (9-lug, originally a .300 Wby. and since rebarreled to .340) since 1986 and also own or have owned many other brands of bolt action rifles. The MK-V compares very favorably with any of them. If anything, it is overbuilt, but I consider that a good thing.

The MK-V operates smoothly, feeds very reliably, is as strong as anything else, handles gas very well, has a one piece bolt with integral handle, has a nice trigger and is as accurate as any other action as far as I am concerned. It is a bit heavier than some other actions because it is all steel and built with ruggedness in mind, but it still has a streamlined appearance.

The short bolt lift (54 degrees, I think) and smooth bolt travel mean that the action can be operated rapidly from the shoulder, and the safety is large and well positioned also for fast operation.

If I were you and wanted a full size, long action magnum rifle, I'd buy the MK-V and go hunting.

Opinions and situations vary, but my ideal Weatherby is a 270 Weatherby in the Ultra Lightweight Magnum. Unless you're going after something way bigger than elk and need a bullet that's bigger/better than the 150 gr Partition, I don't see the need for anything bigger than the 270 Wby, and the ULW Magnum is a very nice light package.

When I got my first Mark V, a year or so ago, I was very impressed with the workmanship, fit and finish. I've owned and shot most commercial actions, including the Champlin and Haskins. The Mark V is very smooth, shucking out emplies and chambering live ones about as slick as anything out there. Some like, others don't like the 9 lug set up. As long as it goes bang and doesn't blow up, I'm OK with any design. The Mark V bolt slides very smoothly in the action, so, kudo's to Mr. Weatherby for a job well done.

Agree with a previous post about the Mark V being overbuilt, but that's a good thing, especially when shooting very powerful rounds at the high end of allowable pressure.

I have 5 German Mark Vs..all are the 9 lug action in 240, 257, 300, 340 and 378..I think these Mark Vs are excellent rifles, well built and accurate...of the five the one I have used the most is the 300...I seldom use the others..my son uses the 257 with 115 NP and RL 22

i have 2 friends, both owned mark v's and sold them after a few seasons of hunting. according to them, there was nothing wrong with the rifles, they just couldn't handle the recoil. both were chambered in 3oo weatherby. the mark 5 has been around a long time, and is still popular, so i wouldn't hesitate to get one if i could handle its' recoil. good luck.

My absolute go to rifle is an Accumark in 270 WBY, stoked with the 130 gr TSX. I have had a few ultra lightweights and in general I don't get along with any lightweight guns - thats just me though. I hunt in the east and its rarely more than a 1/2 mile walk to the stand so weight isn't a big consideration.I can honestly say I haven't found anything that this thing won't shoot pretty well and with what it really likes is very sub moa.

A friend of mine recently retired his 300 Wby and then proceeded to talk me out of my ULW Magnum in 270 Wby. He's ecstatic and I'm happy for him, but I'm thinking I need another one.
