Why does it only weight 6/5? I thought these generally were around 6/12 to 6/14 from the factory.
Were they generally "long" throated, and does that matter for 120 grain bullets?

Mine, SN C64718xx, weighs 6 pounds 6.5 ounces without sights/bases/optics and was assembled in December 1989, barrel code XJ.
I assume that the long throat was cut to handle the 175 grain factory loads.

700 Mountain Rifles in 257 Roberts and 7x57 are jewels that, if you can, you need to hold onto, 'cause if you sell them, they are likely to be damn hard to replace.

JEff Exactly , Oh I could replace it allright but pay just a tad more in the act. There are some that recognize a good deal and then there are those that don't .

I know this is a long shot, but is there any chance this rifle is still up for sale?

Even if it up for sale, prices have gone up in the last few years! Hope you find one.
