Nice cat! Did you call it at night or in the morning?

Thanks for the pic, Critr. I'm getting a .223 together and can't wait for first blood. I'll be in
Sedona, AZ, the week of March 23. I won't be hunting, but I'll take my rabbit call!

I wanted a full mount, until I saw the $700 tag on it. Think I'll just have it tanned, at least for now.

It was mid-morning, about 9 or 9:30. I had been calling 44 minutes, although after 30 minutes of woodpecker, I put in a real loud jackrabbit tape and really cranked the volume to the top. I had in mind pulling in some distant coyotes. Tapering the volume down to a low level, I was about to give it up, when 14 minutes into the jackrabbit here he came........

Twelve gauge, #4 buck at 15 steps. The brush was HEAVY. Most people won't even call it such thick brush, but I'm convinced that is where the cats like it.

Critr, some questions.

Did he circle that you could tell?
Did he come from up or downwind?
How did you ever get the gun up at that range -- did you see him early enough that the brush covered you?
I see you're wearing mouth calls -- did you use both?

Thanks, Jeff

WOW 700 dollars for a full mount on a bob cat. I am glad to have had mine done now. $ 300. in 1985 and it still looks great.
Nice Bobcat !

I would check around before I paid $700.00 for a full body mount. They go for around 350-400 in my neck of the woods. They sure look sharp on the mantle.

I got glimpses of the cat beginning about 40 yards away. He came in without hesitating. Lots of brush, plenty of opportunity to get the shotgun up, although he didn't look my way. He came basically downwind, although wind currents kept shifting, which may be why I couldn't get a coyote to come in. Cats have a pretty poor sense of smell, especially compared to a coyote.

I didn't use a mouth call on this stand. I was using a DK with remote, set about 15 steps away, with the speaker directed toward me. I often orient the speaker like that in brush, to get the animal to come around on my side of the speaker and brush. The bobcat came right up beside the speaker, about 4 feet to the side of it, and crouched down, still looking for the rabbit. Although I had gotten glimpses of him coming through the brush, that was the first time I could see him well enough to even tell what he was.
