GW, many thanks for doing the leg work on this deal. just got mine from the DHL girl, and to say at this piont I'm very pleased would be an understatement. the deal went very smooth. Doug was great to deal with. these 8X43's also have great eye relief and give me no problems at all even with bifocals. thank again larry.

Pentax are great glass for the money, but you guys are in denial if you think they are as good as Leica or Swaro. I have owned both and there is a difference.
I have owned 3 items from Pentax and used the warranty on two of them so far if that tells you anything.

Dogcatcher223,
One question...have you owned the SP's? If not, then you're opinion is just that, and it doesn't hold much weight.
Believe me, I love good glass and I strongly believe a person should buy the best they can afford, but with the strides that have been made over the past couple years, $500.00 goes a lot further than it used to when it comes to binoculars. I think the people who are in denial are the ones who don't want to believe this.
John Barnsness (Mule Deer) probably has more experience with good (and bad) binoculars than any five guys combined, and his tests have shown the SP's to be every bit as good as the Leicas he compared them to, and I have little reason to doubt him.
I've personally compared the SP's on a couple of occassions to my Leicas and Nikon Venturer's and the Pentax were so close it wasn't funny. Another thing I find interesting is that guys will say the SP's arent built tough because they're made of magnesium, but then they'll turn right around and praise the Swarovksi EL's that are-----made of magnesium! Go figure....
My own opinion is that the Pentax DCF SP's provide somewhere between 93-97% of the clarity of the Leicas and Nikon Venturer's I've compared them to, but they're also about 1/3 the cost, so the buyer has to decide whether that extra 3-7% of optical performance is worth the added cost.....
I'm sure a lot of guys think, why buy one pair of Leicas or Swarovskis, when I could buy three pairs of the Pentax SP's?......I'd have a hard time arguing against them.

I used to think you can own 3 pairs of Pentax for the money of one pair of Leica, until your Pentax is away being repaired for 2 months and you are having to use an old back up pair.
I owned the UCF's and the DCF's, and my buddy owned the Pentax SP. All he could say after looking though my Ultravids was "wow!".
My DCF's had to have the eyecup replaced and they had to totally refocus the internals. Not to mention Pentax also had to rebuild a rifle scope that went haywire and when they fixed it they sent it back to me with some dust and a hair on the inside!

I'll add my 2 cents. I've delt with Doug several times, both directly and on eBay and I've always gotten a super price, great service, fast shipping and an honest description with no surprises. Sometimes we get caught up in the pricing frenzy and forget that it's only one aspect of a satisfying buying experience. Doug is great to work with in all areas and I would recommend him without reservation.
Jim
There is a very fine line between idiotic and clever. Most internet posters have no idea where it is.
