Remington Model 700 ADL at Dick's Sporting Goods. If elk or large bears aren't in the picture, I'd get a .270 Winchester. because the .270 won't do the job on elk or large bear? Dave

Taking Swampy's advise on "accurate rifles" is akin to Stevie Wonder judging a Miss America Pageant.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly from almost all the major players. I'd really be hesitant to bet on any. Despite what many would like to believe, QC ain't that good with any.

You mentioned lightweight. I'd like to try one of Savage's new Model 11 Lightweight Hunters. 5.5lbs. Ought to be coming out within the next month. 308 or 7mm-08 would be my choice. But if a Montana is in the budget, sounds like it would be worth a try. The negative reports on here scare me a bit, but not enough to avoid trying one.

Sorry, I thought he said best factory rifle for the money. He did, but you've got your head so far up your azz you couldn't read it...

Go to the store and handle all the rifles you are interested in. See what feels right, handles well for you, and is excited to go home with you. Hopefully the dealer with work his best deal with you. Tastes are all different, but if it feels right and handles well, you can probably work with it until it shoots accurately for you.
If you have problems with it after you buy use the warranty and advice from other members on here.
Good luck and let us know what you pick.

I had a beautiful walnut stocked Rem Mod 7 in .308. The perfect old man's little rifle. I could not keep factory loads inside a pie plate at 100yds. I blamed it on the whippy barrel and my age. My buddy had one in 7mm-08 that was a tack driver. I let it go down the road. Just my luck.
Now I hunt from a blind/stand. My go to rifles are a Sav 99 and a Win 88, both levers in .308. Long range work goes to a Ruger #1 in a .270WBY and bad weather catches the SS/Syn Howa in 7mmWSM. All of these are excellent, but none would be considered as light weight. Good luck.
