Want another 375. Already have an H&H in a Number 1. Had about decided on a hawkeye alaskan, but something keeps bringing me back to an H&H and a winchester Safari express. Kinda want an all around shoot anything kinda rifle to take to africa, shoot an elk with and still drop a whitetail. Gonna be a 375 either way. Just wish they made an alaskan in the H&H, it would make the decision so much easier. What do ya'll think.

I just bought a Remington XCR II in 375 H&H, cost me $700 taxes and all on sale. It's my first stainless / synthetic rifle, so far, I'm very happy with it. It's light, 6 1/2 lbs without scope, but recoil is mild. The stock and recoil pad seem to do a real good job. It has that TriNyte finish which is actually part of the metal inside and out which is supposed to be really good for corrosion. Haven't shot for groups yet, but would be surprised if doesn't shoot better than MOA. If CRF isn't a must for you, it might be worth a look. The slip on recoil pad is to make up for my primate length arms.
Regards,
Chuck

Well I didn`t get my Alaskan to win any field beauty contests nor to own a nostalgic cartridge. Instead, it is functional, fast `n handy, and is a go anywhere in any weather condition rifle, with no worrys about dings, scratches, wood warping, wood treating, babying the rifle in the field on hunts or anything else. Can`t have the Alaskan in a 375 H&H. But as an idea for a good compromise, you can get the Win Safari Express in the H&H, then cut the barrel down to 20" getting a rifle similar in length to that of the Alaskan. However you will lose velocity to the 20" barreled 375 Ruger Alaskan. Given the same barrel lengths, no way will any 375 H&H equal the velocities of the 375 Ruger, which in all hunting game killing reality, won`t matter anyway. Your choice will boil down to either having a rifle with more elegance and cartridge nostalgia vs a handier no nonsense rifle capable of higher velocities with better durability in the harshest of conditions, and a rifle with no worrys about dings, dents, scratching, stock maintainence or having to baby the rifle while in the field. My choice was the latter.

Hard to beat a good M70 Stainless Classic in .375 H&H.... That being said, I wouldn't mind owning one of the Ruger Alaskan's in .375 Ruger as well.

I have an Interarms which uses a mauser (crf) action. It is accurate and at about 9lbs, just about right for a .375 H&H IMO. Mine has a walnut stock, but they are also available in synthetic. looks like this in the African morning sun...... Karnis here on the fire re-finished the stock for me.

I'd love to have that exact rifle with a 1.5-5X20 VX3 on it. I've thought about getting a model 70 and cutting the barrel to 20" I've got awhile before time to use it, i'm just gonna stay on gunbroker and see if i can find a good one at a decent price

I got rid of my Remington .375H&H several decades ago and went with a Model 70 Winchester, never regretted doing so. I later took that .375H&H and had it reamed out to a .375-Wby caliber.
The rifle can shoot .375H&H in a pinch but has that extra whallop with the Wby chambering (+170fps faster) should you need the velocity and energy gain. Both rounds shoot very accurately out of this rifle. The cost 15 years ago was a mere $60 dollars to have done.

Going through the same thing myself. Cannot decide between the CZ 550 or the African/Alaskan 375 Ruger. This will be a Plan "B" rifle for elk if my primary goes down. I'm not sure I'm sold on the 20/23 inch barrel, and having said that, I don't know if I'm going to enjoy lugging 10+ pounds of CZ at altitude.

I keep coming back to the ruger. It will be alot cheaper and provide extra funds for optics and dies, ammo etc. Probably get it for now and see how i like it. As popular as they are, it won't be hard t sell it if i don't.

My brother and I both love our Whitworths. I bought mine new several years ago, and he picked his up on GunBroker for less than a kilobuck. Mauser action, CRF, express sights, gorgeous wood in a MOA .375. What's not to like?
I was hoarding when hoarding wasn't cool.

If accuracy is a consideration, consider the Model 700BDL

Since when has a model 70 Winchester ever been "NOT" accurate in an African rifle or any other caliber in a model 70 Winchester rifle. Sgt. Carlos Hathcock used a model 70 bolt gun back in the 1960's if my memory serves correctly!!!

Agree Tonk! It seems like the M70 and M 700 advocates have a hard time extolling the virtues of their rifles without putting down the other. There's room for both

I suppose the Model 70 is accurate enough for the big 5.
