Are your lips accurate enough for my ass?

I suppose the Model 70 is accurate enough for the big 5. Have you ever taken your M700 .375 to the range yet to sight it in? I know you bought it a couple months ago, then was waiting for a certain type of scope mount, but never heard anything more about a range report.. If so, what type of ammunition did you use and what type of groups was it shooting?

With some ancient Winchester 270 grain soft points it was shooting a little less than 3/4" at 100. With Remington 270 Soft Points it was less than 1" at 100 yards. I put Talley LWs on it and a 3-9X40 Leupold 3-9X40 VX-II. I was getting tired and I want to shoot it with some IMR-4350 reloads when I'm not tired. I need a few more empty cases. This gun will shoot 1/2" groups I'm sure.

This gun will shoot 1/2" groups I'm sure. Not saying that it can't be done, but 1/2" 100 yard groups out of any .375 H&H rifle is pretty remarkable, especially when you consider that the whole group wouldn't be much larger than the diameter of a single 375 caliber bullet. My Win M70 .375 H&H is very accurate, but I doubt if it would shoot 1/2" 100 yard groups even if it was clamped down in some type of gun vise.

If I didn't already have a M70 .375 I'd be all over one of those Ruger 375's, and it would probably be the Alaskan Model. More compact with the shorter barrel, very accurate, CRF, 'built in' scope mount, great for foul weather conditions, and on top of that the price is excellent...

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Just be sure to have that safety modified a little by a good metalsmith so that it is not as hidden from a groping sweaty panicked thumb when one of the big five or a pissed off bear is incoming fast. That 'hidden' when engaged safety is the only fault of the Ruger big bore rifles. Outside of that, they are darned near perfect.

On the topic of accuracy, many big bores shoot extremely small groups when one can hold them steady enough from a bench. My 416 Rigby, with its factory CZ barrel, will make cloverleafs at 100 yards using Barnes TSX or Monolithic Banded Solids. The reason for this is because imperfections in a barrel of a bore large diameter are, in proportion to the total area of the bore and bullet or expressed as a percentage of the total surface area of a barrel or bullet, are far lower than the numbers for a smaller diameter barrel or bullet assuming the same size imperfection. I have owned, seen and shot lots of 375 to 458 caliber rifles that would one hole its groups at 100 yards. Far more of these than rifles of 25-30 cal for the reasons mentioned above. I suppose a REALLY TOUGH guy could compete in bench rest matches with a well built 458 Lott..... Not me, BTW

I have a .458 Winchester that is so accurate that after I sold it, I went after it and got it back. Took nearly a year, but it is staying put this time.

well if you re read the question again, it asked opinions between buying a winchester safari express or a ruger alaskan. I didn't mention a remington 700 at all. If it was an option, it would have been put in the question.

Ok that's fine the .375 Ruger is an interesting new cartridge. I hope it makes it. Good luck on finding brass. They haven't been having any problems with the Alaskan stocks as far as I know.

If it was an option, it would have been put in the question. ............You`ll have to excuse `ol Swampy. He lives and will die with Remington on his brain. And if the cartridge is a 375, only the 375 H&H is on his brain too.! And didn`t you hear? Our earth and solar system revolves around,,,,,Remington! He just doesn`t understand how marketing forces work and also under-estimates the two major companies behind the 375 Ruger namely Hornady and Ruger. Swampy of course, always sits in on those company strategy and sales meetings at Hornady and Ruger. There are a few distributors that have 375R brass. Midway is one of them and there are others. So brass and ammo availability for the 375 Ruger is no problem. Swampy also seems to think that the 375 Ruger will or might fall short in the longetivity dept. I`ll bet that `ol Swampy will be lying in his casket, a casket with an engraved "Remington" symbol on its lid, Remington M700 rifles for casket handles, and he being shriveled up and petrified like a hardened prune long before the 375 Ruger goes bye bye!..................
