Either will be minute of coyote and steel out to normal ranges. I've had 1/2 dozen customs built on 700's without doing anything other than minimal work on the action and they are plenty accurate - well below MOA. I also have a pair of Stillers and a Defiance being built at the moment. Really happy with the Stillers - mine are both freaky accurate and smooth. Not sure why they get a bad rap here.

A custom action will probably be as accurate as a factory Remington action without any work at all.

Not sure why they get a bad rap here. Once you lay a Defiance or Bat in your hand Joe, you'll understand.

I just had a rifle built with an action from Pierce Engineering. I'm very happy with it.

Defiance offers alot of choices from all round to 700 style rear bridge and a true one pc bolt, GAP uses Defiance in some of his signature builds, nice stuff!

Glen & Lisa are the nicest & easiest people in the action business to deal with. Place an order, recieve an immediate e-mail statement with a completion date that you can count on.

If you going long action anyway. Go Stiller but instead of the Predator give their TAC series actions a look. Did my last build with one of their TAC 30 SA. Love it.

Thanks for all the info guys. For those of you that have used a 700 action and put a PTG or SSS bolt in, were you satisfied? Was the bolt smoother and have less slop when it was open? Thanks!

I would seriously consider a Pierce action as it's a Remington clone and will fit stocks for Remington actions. The cost of the action is about the cost of a Remington rifle to use as a donor action. http://www.pierceengineeringltd.com/products.php

I just bought a "A" series m700 bdl in good condition from the pawn shop for $425.00.. I will sell the stock & barrel for $75.00 leaving me with $350.00 in the action. I will have the a Lilja barrel put on a "blue printed action" with a reworked factory trigger for about $1,000 in the barrelled action. I think a simular "custom" action with trigger & bottom metal will be around would run over $1,500.00. I personally like a reworked factory trigger better than a jewel trigger.

Here is a pic of the Pierce Engineering custom action I built this hunting rifle on. It's a rem 700 clone and cost $885 for the action. It's as slick as snot. I'm getting very good accuracy with the action and Broughton barrel. Check em out.
