Cerakote is great...poly's are great...teflon is great...the reality is, for the american hunter, all of these are more than enough. Were it for a military application I might have a different opinion, but I have had them all and for my money, teflon looks the best, but I would not say anything bad about any of them for your average hunting trip, they will all protect your rifle.

I have a rifle I sent off to Birdsong and Associates to get the "Black T" teflon finish. It turned out looking fantastic. I haven't had the rifle out much so it hasn't had the oppurtinities in the field to get banged around. I can't tell you about durability. It appears to be very good and the finish has a flat but rich dark shade to it. I wouldn't call it black, more of a dark smokey color. You could search for their website. As I recall they had info on colors of finish (Green T) and photos. I went through Gander to get this done and I believe it was about $250.
I think you could get It done cheaper sending it to them yourself, but then you would pay shipping.

If you want to keep the bluing on and rust proof it use our DYNA-TEK Gun Shield. It is a clear ceramic that you apply at home using a 12 gauge cleaning patch. To apply take the gun apart and degrease it. Do a final wipe down with denatured alcohol. Grab your patche and wipe on a thin coat of Gun Shield. Wait 20 or 30 minutes and wipe on another. Build to 3 coats and let it cure over night then put it back together. If you scar it up just wipe with denatured alcohol and wipe on somemore Gun Shield. No need to strip off the old. $32.00 with shipping.
