Considering Deflave's thread on the 40 grain Ballistic Tips,
I thought I'd ask if folks have had experience in the field and can compare the Blitz Kings for performance, vs the Ballistic Tips.

Ballistic Tips are of course readily available around here..

Blitz Kings require mail order or going over to Medford ( 45 miles away) and purchasing at Sportsmans Warehouse...

Thanks for your input in advance.

I run the 40gr BlitzKing's in my 222's and 223's (the 1-12"twist barrel's), in my rifles they are slightly more accurate than the ballistic tips and are more frangible also. I bought a 500count box from Cabela's a while back that was on sale. check on-line and see if they are still on sale

The BK's seem to be very accurate in all my rifles but not any better than the BT. The BT's are a little tougher than the BK's. I would try both if i was you and let your rifle make the choice.

I see slightly better accuracy and more explosive performance with BlitzKings in my .222, .221, and Hornet.

The biggest difference is the BKs are a flat-base bullet where the BTs are a boat-tail which gives them a higher BC. I also think the nosler is a little tougher bullet.

Swifty52: I am holding in my hand a 224 caliber 40 grain Sierra BlitzKing bullet that has a flat base.
My 50 grain 224 Sierra BlitzKing bullets have a boat-tail as do my 55 grain 224 BlitzKings.
So I guess Sierra makes BlitzKings in both styles.

In 22cal ... 40gr flat, 50gr BT. Same in 6mm ... the lightweight is a flat base.

Mine and friends experience, the Sierra pill is a 'softer' one, difference however may just be in the penetration of the base.
Cheers...

You are correct on both counts the BK's are flat base and the BT's are boattails.
The B.C. of the BT's .221 and the B.C. of the BK's .196
In short you dont use a 40gr 22 cal bullet for it's B.C. and long range work, you use it for close range varmint hunting.....and yes they are not quite as tough making them even better (red mist etc).

Dont get me wrong I love the 55gr BT's out of my swift or 22-250AI but with the 40's the Blitz is the King for me.

Just one more thing to add, Being a flat base bullet for close range work is not a bad thing......for example Hornady's 22cal V-Max bullet's. the 40gr is a boat-tail and does not work near as well in my rifle's as the BT or the BK. the 60gr V-Max is a flat base and is absolute magic in some rifles.
The boat tail and VLD designs really shine in long range applications but not necessarily in short range applications.

I like the Sierra 40 gr. HP better than the BK or the Vmax in that weight...the Sierra HP is cheaper, very accurate, less frangible but still seldom exits like the BK and Vmax, and is a killing machine on groundhogs in the 222,223,and 22/250.

Put me down in the Nosler fan category.... I have a hard time not optimizing every one of my rifles no matter how bad they are hamstrung by barrel twist. Fourty grain Ballistic Tip's have flung a lot of "goo" for me and I'll continue to use them in 14" .223's, .222's, and Fireball's because they are superior "ballisticly", and un-doubtably shoot awesome!

I can't speak to the 40 grain versions,

but my experience with the two in the 50 grain and 55 grain versions has been that the blitz kings have performed very well accuracy wise for me across a wider range of velocities than the BT's.

the ballistic tips have been more finicky to get dialed in.

Seafire: I forgot to answer YOUR question when I posted yesterday about the FB vs BT availability.
I have used both bullets in question for many years now and have no complaints what so ever about either.
I deal with "remote living and availability of products" constantly - so I often feel your pain!
But in this instance (the BlitzKings vs the Ballistic Tips) you won't be giving up much at all with whichever one you choose (have available).
Have a good spring/summer season Varminting.
We have 6" of brand new fresh snow here this morning in SW Montana - and we are under a winter storm warning right now!

al gores "global warming" I guess?

I love Blitz Kings. Laser beams they are. Pet bullets in all three of my 22s.
For some mysterious reason, MY guns won't eat NBTs but I have worked up loads with them for others' toys, and they blow stuff up just fine.
Overall, tho, I have never had a field "failure" of any kind with any of the bullets mentioned as long as the bullet was big enough for the intended target.
And I'll second the 60 VMs. Wow. The Mini Hammer of Thor.
