I used to cast bullets with my friend back in the '70's. I have forgotten most of it and was wondering if someone could give me a good suggestion to get started again. I'm thinking of reading Mike Venturino's books to begin with. I'll be casting for a Glock 29 (with Wolf barrel) and a Marlin CB 45/70. I want to duplicate some Beartooth bullets that I've found to be VERY accurate. Any suggestions? Thanks, William

Another vote for the Lyman book. For your Marlin : I've been pleased with the bullets from the Lyman 457193 mould for my CB 45-70. I cast 30:1 for BP loads and wheel weights for smokeless. That bullet is not a gas-check model so I use a card wad under the lubed bullet (as you would for BPCR) whether BP or smokeless powder is used. No experience with Glock, so will leave any comments/suggestions to those who do.

I like the 405 grain pills for my 45-70's. I push them with about 40.0 grains of RL-7 for about 1600 fps. A pretty good load with decent recoil, yet strong enough to get the attention of about anything walking in the woods.
I guess my best tip is to properly size your bullet to your bore, and use a good lube(I like the LAR45-White). You can buy it on E-Bay pretty cheap.
Good luck, welcome back, and welcome to the addiction!! I am going to try and get down to my garage and cast some bullets for my 45 Colt. I need to load up a few hundred Gallery Loads for shooting on the front porch. Front Porch shooting weather is finaly here. Tom.

Thanks to all for the info. I'll get the Lyman book for sure. Can't wait to start casting and shooting more.

I just picked up a 2 cavity mold for my new 45 Colt, and I have 120 pounds of wheel weights, so looking forward to melting some lead.
