I was at a Division of Wildlife event tonight and some of the volunteers that work the phones shared a few of the memorable calls they had jotted down from the past year.
Here are a few that I could remember, or shall I say, couldn't forget.
"Weve removed all of the bear attractant from our property but it isnt helping. They are just getting into our garbage instead."
"This coyote is afraid of my husband. I have had it in the house playing with my kids all day today. I let it out this evening and now it wont come back again."
"How old do I have to be to qualify for an over 65 license?"
"Is it illegal for coyotes to come inside the city limits?"
"Is a gorilla stronger than a polar bear?"
"I received a hunting license in the mail. Does this mean I was successful in the draw?"
"An animal has been hanging around that looks somewhat like a small wolf with tan fur. I believe it is a hyena."
"Im with an injured deer on the side of the highway. Should I wait here with it until a DOW officer arrives?" What is your location? "Highway xx, Pennsylvania."
"Can I safely brush my teeth while camping? or will the toothpaste attract hungry bears?"
"Why isnt there a boomerang hunting season?"

Turns out, if you laugh loud enough by yourself in a coffeeshop, folks will stare.

I'd say no one could be that dumb, but, sadly, I know better.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

One of the old-time DWM's who went to work for the CDOW in the late fifties loves to tell the story about the deer camp full of Okies he checked one day in the early 60's. They proudly showed him their "monster bucks" they had killed--only to see three raghorn bulls hanging on the pole..........
There seems to be at least one in every CDOW public meeting--the guy who think antlers are not shed and continue to grow all year.
Then their was the gal driving the horse-drawn sleigh in Jackson at the elk refuge on a late December trip to Yellowstone--she proceeded to tell us rubes riding in the sleigh that a big 6 point bull we were watching had grown a few more inches of horns in the past couple weeks. And she claimed she was the daughter of the sleigh company owner! I damn near fell out of the sleigh.......

Not being married to any particular political party sure makes it a lot easier to look at the world more objectively... Having said that, MAGA.
