I just got a new AR that I plan on treating before I take it to the range. Any special considerations? I was thinking that some of the internal parts might benefit from being treated and cooked in an oven. It is a DI system. I did this with the breech plugs for my two muzzleloaders and it worked well.

Thanks in advance for the replies,
JV

I treat the entire bolt carrier group, trigger group, buffer spring, buffer ( dont oven cure the buffer) and interior and exterior of the upper and lower. In other words if in doubt coat it.

Just got done doing an extensive test (1000rnds) and there is a dramatic difference in the amount of carbon sticking to the interior of a DI (direct impingement) gun.

Coating will also make the action very slick and smooth plus you will greatly reduce the action noise.

The only real analysis of a bolt failure in an AR-15 I have seen pointed to corrosion pits causing stress risers as a contributing cause to the failure and the Dynatec coating has a 750 hr salt spray rating and will provide considerable rust protection.

I am a big fan of the Dynatec coatings and we coat the bolts and a lot of the internals in our custom rifles.

I like the bore coating and we apply that to the barrels before any shots go down range and it certainly does help with fouling but I am much more impressed with the Gun Shield product.

Hard to tell from the pictures but does the coating make the metal much shinier?

You can tell where the coating is but it does not make a big difference, just a slight change in appearance.

It is good stuff- even helps necks stay clean and carbon almost wipes off.
