Elk hunting in Ontario? Really? Where?

Its true there will be some elk hunting this fall. One place is near my
s-i-l's uncles cottage. The elk often come in the evening to water in the bay just north of his cottage.

I imagine it will be difficult to draw a tag. As soon as the new hunting reg's become available the info should be included.

I probably will not bother. From what I understand from my s-i-l the elk are primarily staying on private land. I think access will be the biggest problem hunters will face. I'm waiting for the reg's to come out to find out more about where the hunts are to be held.

I am also wondering when the hunt will be held. Our moose hunt is already confirmed so if there is any conflict it is too late to change anyway.

There will likely be lots of competition for the available tags.

I heard something like 50 tags will be up for grabs. Bancroft area? We had a cow elk get hit by a truck in the Lanark County area about 5 years ago. Have never seen or heard of one in the area since. Would love to see the population grow and take hold, awesome animal to hunt!
