What are the thoughts on the blended, 5, 6, 7, loads? I have always used 6's but now they seem difficult to find. Just what benefit do you get for a couple of extra bucks?

6's are great!
I run them in my 20ga for turkey's had have high confidence to 40 yds. I won't shoot further than that with a 12 so go for it!
To me they are worth a few extra dollars because of the way they pattern in my 870. Nothing comes close with HS-13 #6 and a Primos Jelly Head choke.

I guess I didn't read it right....I have no experience with the blended loads.

I am hunting with the 12 gauge, 3" Magnum Blends this year; shooting them through a Pure Gold .670 tube on a back-bored Browning BPS. They pattern approximately 170 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards and 265 pellets in a 15" circle at 40 yards through my rig. I accidentally patterned some at 43 yards (I have a long pace) and was getting 145/225 respectively. Hopefully I can give you a kill report in the next three weeks. The Magnum Blends and Hevi-13 12 gauge, 3", 2 oz #5's are all I can find around here, so I went to the Blends (I used to shoot the same size load in the #6 too.)

I can't get any better numbers out of the Mag Blend than I can the regular flavor Hevi 13 3-2-6 load. In fact, the Mag Blend shoots about 8" low from point of aim in my Benelli M1S90 Camo Turkey gun. That is very unusual for that gun, nearly every load shoots right to the beads for me with a beautiful 60/40 pattern. The Mag Blend doesn't offer anything for me personally.

the only mag blend I've used was the Remington 4x6 and it didn't tickle my funny bone.

Funny that you had the lower impact issue - I did too (9" lower) in my Browning BPS - I am guessing that the Mag Blends being Hevi-shot and being 110 fps faster than the other Hevi-13 loads, is what causes the downward shift. I added a Red-dot to compensate, but don't really like the extra weight and bulk above the receiver. I do like the load, but will gladly shift to Hevi-13 #6 or #7 if I could find them here.

I have always liked #5's in lead in my 12Ga 3" 870 but wanted to try some Hevi-shot this year so I picked up some Magnum Blend and a Primos Jelly Head tube. There's a $5 rebate per box on the Hevi-shot which eased the pain a bit. Will be patterning it this w/e hoping for good results.
