Leupold VX-3LRT
Nightforce NXS

Others, etc, etc...

What is your most preferred/favorite make, model, and power range of F Class competition scope ?

NF Br 12-42 is the gold standard. Sightron 10-50 is making significant inroads.

NF 12-42x BR here... though I've been using an NXS model off and on for 'team' events, and the one thing I like better is the # of moa per revolution is divisible by 5 (or 10, depending on model). Now the 6 moa/rev on the BR kind of throws me off and I have to double check my mental math when cranking on elevation.

Yeah, 6moa per revolution is a mind bender. About my only real complaint w/ the BR...

I don't have a Nightforce yet but I'm having a hard time not wanting a NXS. Is the 12-42BR all about the power or does it have a sweet spot ?

I have both a NF 12-42 that I have had for a year or so, and a brand new just recieved NSX 8-32X56, that I havn't even mounted on the rifle yet. Nightforce has served me well i hope I get the service out of the NSX that I have recieved from the BenchRest scope. Time will tell........

I am running two scopes this year
Both Leupolds
8-25-50 MK4 with Mildot ret and .25 moa clicks. This is my high mirage scope, when just too much mirage for higher power. This scope has worked very well for me. I have a new wind knob on it thta has two rows of numbers. Right side marks wind in 1-15 moa for right side wind and left side does same for left side wind.

Fixed 35 power BR series with 1/8 moa clicks. This is my day in and day out scope these days and I love it.

HI Tactical

I noted your running leupolds but remember you were using/trying out the March scope. Would you mind advising why you changed? I would rather not spend $3,000+ only to find out it falls short for F class, and i would rather buy a lower cost option (or buying two leupolds vs. 1 march)

Many Thanks
Trevor

After using a March on a BR rifle, I would use a March 10X60 for FClass.

Trevor,

Bill Watts mentioned it in his Raton report. You'd better talk directly to him. Drop me a line if you need his contact info.

March has some very big draws in terms of weight savings, as well as magnification. It sure would be nice to wring one out for a season!

I have an 8-80, and 5-32 March. I had a 10-60 March. All great scopes. I think the scope from March for F Class is thr 5-50 as best all around from them.

I switched to Leupold this year to see if I saw a real difference going from 3000.00 plus scopes to 99.00 and 1350.00 dollar scopes for competition purposes.

It comes from going what I believe is full circle. All the way to the most expensive to just going with very good and saving alot of money.

So far very happy. I am running the fixed 35X Leupold 99 percent of the time and love it. I am sure there will be a time mirage will kick up too much and I will switch to the varible 8-25 Mk4 but so far its been mild and no need to do so.

Trevor,
It seems that the consensus is the 8-80 doesn't transmit enough light in a low light condition.
Now Mike let me gig you a little. How much do you save buying 2 Leupolds against 1 March.
Actually my concerns with the Leupolds are holding POI. They are famous for the erector tube moving when you don't want it to. All the BR folks that I know that still use them will not shoot a target after a scope change without putting 4 or 5 rounds down range. They want to be sure the scope has settled down after adjustments.

Well the 8-25 MK4 does double duty on a tactical 338 Lapua and second scope for my F TR rifle so really I am just using the fixed competition model 35x right now.

So its 999.00 versus 3000.00.

Dont get me wrong the March is as good as it gets. I dont think a better scope exists for F Class. My goal this year is to scale back and save some money where I can, so I am working with the Leupolds. I wnated to know if my scores would sufer and guess what they have not suffered at all. The fixed Leupold optics are better than anyone needs

My next thing to play with is right now I have started running a Savage F TR Rifle and still working up loads but so far very impressed. It shoots fantastic, especially since Team Savage Stan Pate schooled me on how to get the most out of it.

Thanks for the info, i was looking at the leupold 35 for another application entirely Field target (you know air rifles at 55 paces) anyways it would be a bonus if it could double as my back up F Class rifle.

But i still would like a MARCH

As a side note a competitor friend of mine had a second NF NSX let go; he has had enough and is looking to get the S&B 12-50. we will see what that looks like.

Trevor, tell your friend all scopes can break. The SxBs are excellent scopes as are the NXS's. If he has that kind of money though I would buy a March 5-50 for F TR before the SxB.

The SxB sniper scopes are dirt tough but I dont have a track record on the 12-50s other than what I saw at 2009 Worlds and I believe I heard a few new German cuss words from the Germn team while using the SxBs

Trevor I wont let my March Scopes go as they trully are state of the art

The big problem w/ March is getting them legally into Canada.
