Hunting regulations, areas, quotas, and concessions in Botswana have changed quite a bit in the past few years. Does anyone on the 'fire know ' what's open, what's closed, what is on and off license these days?

hatari, from what i could source, the last persons to ask this question, is the Botswana parks. so sad, so true. hope they can get some consensus on this.
I might hunt too much, but it is still not enough!

Things are certainly headed down the wrong path in Botswana, no question. In addition to Lion, I have never been able to figure out why they took Sable and Sitatunga "off the menu", so to speak. From what I can tell, neither of those species' populations are threatened there.
I'm becoming more tolerant of intolerant people.

The closure of lions and leopards can single handidly be contributed to the Joubert's. Look out, because they are now working on getting the lions listed as endangered! They believe that trophy hunting is the reason for the decrease in population and mis-lead with biased studies!

Ian Khama's eco tourist business interests are the real threat to hunting the delta.

For those that don't know of Derrick and Beverly Joubert and Ian Khama, anyone what to explain who they are and what they do?

Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama (or Ian a Srts; born 27 February 1953) is the President of Botswana and the Paramount Chief of the Bamangwato tribe. He is extremely well educated and is a Sandhurst (the British Military Academy) graduate. He is a great patron of the tourist industry ,and has considerable investment/ownership interests in companies which are being given exclusive rights to sponsor eco-tourism in the Okavongo. As hunting concession leases have run out, they are being taken over by the government and turned over to these tourism companies. Rand and Caylitz were two of the better known outfitters who lost their delta concessions. Suspect there will continue to be some excellent desert hunting for buff and tuskers, but the days of huning the delta seem to be drawing to a close.
