I have a sporterized by kimber swedish mauser. Ramshot load data says that 53 grains of ramshot hunter is a max load yet Ionly get 2300fps with this load. Figuring that the difference was because of the long throat in my gun I continued to las hotter until I reached 2600 at 46 grains. Cases extractt easily and primers look normal.I have seen load data for r19 which is in the 46gr range and accordingtoburn rate charts hunter is within two places of r19. Do you think that I am running excess pressure?

Thanks Mule deer. I didnt think i was running excess presasure but was just puzzled by the disparity. I just noticed that the Lyman #47 manual listd 47gr h380 as max in 6.5x55 while hodgdon lists only 40.5. But thelyman test rfle was a swede mauser much like my own.

The problem (if we can call it that) is that thhroat length varies so much in 6.5x55 rifles, just as it does in 7x57 rifles. So some loading manuals tend to err on the really safe side.

bamaguy, for reference I have shot 130gr Bergers with the following powders at the velocity listed without even a hint of pressure.

RL19 @ 2900
N560 @ 2850
RL22 @ 2850

If you are interested in a Ramshot powder for the 6.5 you might want to take a look at Magnum. I am going to try it in the next week.
