It is over 100 degrees today and I'm just dumb enough to be out scouting for antelope. I tossed a rifle in the pick up just in case I saw a critter that needed killing. Glad I did as there is now one less lope/deer killing coyote in the area I like to hunt. The shot was a bit long for a running shot. The yote was running slightly quartering away. One 150gr corelokt from my 30.06 ruined his day. I think he was dead before he hit the ground. After the shot I ranged it at 282 yards. I've certainly missed bigger animals closer and holding a whole lot more still. Like the saying goes I'd rather be lucky than good.

Big Sky,

I sure apreciate you killing that game getter. Its great grandson might have come to Oregon, but thanks to you, its breading days are over. Good man.

Some times ya make your own luck. You were out there, and toting a rifle, sounds like good judgement to me.

Nice shot....I shudder to think how many rifles I've stroked dry on running 'yotes without similar results.

His tail is stuck to the opposite side shown in the picture. Trust me, the other side ain't so purty.

On a non-related note I just found out it was 108 degrees when I tripped the trigger on this yodel dog. I imagine his inards were a tad hotter than that when the bullet introduced it's self.

VAnimrod, I'm in total agreement 108 degree weather is downright nasty.

I think you found the secret to better shooting. Always keep your eyes closed and flinch when you yank the trigger Good shooting! Flinch

That was fine shooting! It's harder to keep one's cool with those running shots when one is nearly melting!

You want to move to the west side. It rarely ever gets all that hot over there.
