Just got one of the Chapparral 1876's in 40-60, I understand that brass can be made from 45-70, can I just trim and run through a 40-60 sizing die or do I need a specific reducing die for this operation? From what I can find, only Ten-X is making loaded ammo, but it runs about $4.00 per round. Anyone know of other sources for ammo?

I�ve made many 40-65 cases with a single pass of a well lubed 45-70 case thru a 40-65 sizing die. Trim after sizing.
CARTRIDGES OF THE WORLD says the 40-60 can be easily be made from the 45-70 so I'm thinking one pass thru the 45-70 die and a trim should do it.

Be my guess Dennis B is on the money. I make 40-70 BN with one pass thru the sizer as long as I use Imperial die sizing wax on the case. Magnum Man

I've never messed with a .38, but I've formed a lot of .40-65 from .45-70 brass. I learned that not all brands work the same. Starline is great brass, but it's best to anneal it before forming. I really like Imperial for most sizing, but for case forming I've had better luck with pure anhydrous lanolin.

I've formed some 40-65 brass from 45-70, mostly starline. Annealing before hand seems to help a lot.
