I have a 17 yr old nephew up from Colorado staying for the summer. He's been staying with his half brother and working with him,big Bro has a roofing company.
Anyways,I've been taking him camping and teaching him to fly fish for the last 3 weekends, and we're heading out again next weekend.Gawd I've been having a blast. The kid is a sponge when it comes to absorbing info.He picked up fly casting pretty quick, and started catching fish from his float tube. This last weekend I changed it up and we fished a small river all weekend.
It was a little harder now,he had to contend with moving water, brush and trees and logs that eat up flies.
While explaining to him how to read the water and where to cast I saw a flash under a log,and got him to cast into the current and let the water take it under the log,WHAM! A big brook trout nailed his fly and came flying out of the water about 2 feet.Unfortunately the battle was short and the trout won that round. At first Clay was dissappointed but he got over it quick when he realized what he had just done. Now I think I've created a fly fishing monster .To give him more incentive I gave him one of my graphite rods,a 9 ft 5 wt.
His Dad's going to hate me(my big brother) when he gets back to Colorado.I'm hoping this will get my Brother back into fishing too.He hasn't done much in the last 5 years, and he's living in good trout country in Colo.
