Reminds me of the bone-stock wood Ruger 10/22 I bought for my daughters.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Biesen 7x57, but the stock wouldn't fit Eileen at all. She's 5'8" with long arms, so shoots a 13-1/2" LOP, and a Monte Carlo also works a LOT better.

Also, it's a pound heavier than her Kilimanjaro .308.

Good advice, I erred in this respect not long ago and find the FN Mauser barrelled action in 30/06 that was to be the donor in a new rifle I "need" will stay intact. Just for giggles, tried your trick with the bread bag closers in a poor man's floating job, rifle shot too well. Wish it hadn't.

I agree with the posts regarding fit. We settled on a M70 FW compact in 7-08 for my daughter. She is recoil sensitive so I load the 120g Barnes TTSX. On deer, blackbuck and auodad it has performed very well. GRF

Has she tried your 6.5 Creedmoor yet?

My mother in law wanted a .243, so my father in law went to town and came home with a really good deal in a BAR .308. I ended up with it.

Boys, don't ever go shopping with a list and substitute your judgement for what the lady wants.

When my wife started shooting/hunting we carried four rifles to the range; .223 Remington, .243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington and .308 Winchester. All these rifles were Remington 788's without recoil pads. She shot them all from the bench and fell in love with the 7mm-08 which has the 18 1/2" barrel. I trimmed the stock to shorten the length of pull and installed a Pachmayr ventilated pad. With her best handload (taught her that as well) and a good rest she can shoot the buttons off your shirt at 100 yards. I agree that the best advice so far is let the ladies handle and shoot various rifles and then go with what they like and want.

I sent the 6.5 Creedmoor down the road recently. I often do this frequently with rifles purchased to experiment with, after I've had my fun and learned what I need to know.

Eileen didn't want to shoot it, because at 8-1/2 pounds it was too darn heavy. She likes 'em to be no more than 7 pounds, about what her .260 weighs with scope, and a little lighter is even better.

This is the 257 Roberts, IIRC. A number of years ago I scanned the pict from a mag to send to Rick Bin. He was painting a stock for me and I said "make it look like this"....

That's the classic, original New Ultra Light Arms paint pattern--and the first elk either of us killed with the then-new Barnes Triple-Shock bullet. (Well, unless you count a coyote shot a day or two before with the same NULA .270. The 140 TSX also way over-penetrated on the coyote.)

John, I understand the weight issue. Was looking at the recoil perspective from your article, but with similar case capacities, the .260 should be fine. The lady has to like it and be comfortable with it. I've noticed that in your articles, too.
