What's your candidate for this, the most misused word in the language, the one that makes you grit your teeth like the fingernails on the blackboard? Here's mine: CALVARY: the site of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. CAVALRY: military term for mounted soldiers, either horseback or otherwise. I have heard this once on the news already today and seen it in print twice, and it's only noon!!

Then instead of than, or the other way around. I'm no English language perfectionist, but that one gets to me for some reason.

Irregardless instead of regardless. Used to bust on my business partner all the time for that one 'til I broke him of it. The one that cracks me up is "literally" when they mean "figuratively" as in "It was so cold out I literally froze my butt off!"

"like" - as in I was like totally happy.
I'll ask were you actually totally happy or just like that?
"and" for "an" I see that on the fire a lot.

When "a lot" is spelled as one word.
What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

Most of you know I have no room to talk here, but...... I am in the masonry business NOT the masonary business. I have even seen masonry spelled masonary on the side of a very well established building suppliers deliery truck. In fact, they had it spelled that way on the whole fleet when they had their name changed. It must be pretty bad when it is ME that brings the error to you attention! I know several folks that have been in the masonry industry for many years that even refer to it as the masonary industry. Drop the second "a" folks.

Some people buy property through a real-i-tor. That should be realtor.

Not most misused but oddly irritating, "mute" for "moot."
The key elements in human thinking are not numbers but labels of fuzzy sets. -- L. Zadeh
Which explains a lot.
