Took my 50 cal Lancaster rifle out to play today. 75 yards,OFFHAND, 8" bull. Put 8 shots in the bull. number 9 at bottom of target paper. #10 was a shot at a claybird on 100 yard bank, Got it. It was a somuvabidge for concentration to accomplish this. Off a rest, the rifle will drop 5 into a teacup group at 100. This was a test for me,not the rifle. I am progressing. Thank my lucky stars for double set triggers!!!!! grin

That is really cool. Awesome shooting! Where do you get your supplies at? I.e. powderhorn, gear bag? My uncle wad a black powder guy and passed away. I was pretty young but always remembered everytime he would bring it out to shoot how interested i was. Would love to get into that game. Thanks for your post. Andy

Thanx guys. I get most of my supplies from Track of the Wolf. I find them very cool folks to deal with. The shooting?? The rifle is capable of better. It is a major effort of concentration for me to do that. Cartridge rifles and even percussion muzzleloaders forgive all sorts of screw-ups in basic marksmanship. Flinters forgive NOTHING! They (my flinters) are second only to my Sharps as MAJOR league fun guns!!!

ET,
Thanks for the pics and post. There is just nothing as cool as a pretty Lancaster, Haines, Beck, etc....

Thanks again,

Johnny $

Welcome. Interestingly I learned that the original Lancasters,Becks and Haines guns had fairly wide fairly flat buttplates while the extreme drop, crescents seem to be more on southern rifles. Those old Deutschmen made their guns to be shot..a LOT. They are so lovely yet when you have one in your hands, it leaves no doubt but that it is a hard use hunting rifle.

That is some purdy wood and rifle. Makes my .54 Lyman Deerstalker look kind of ... ordinary grin. Flintlocks are just plain fun.

Nice pic, and congrats on the shooting.

(I gotta say though I had to laugh at first when I saw that second pic. At first glance I thought you had arranged your gear on your kilt. I thought "who in their right mind would stand naked from the waist down in the snow to take a photograph?" Then I looked a little closer. "Never mind, joke's on me!" It's an honest mistake! My old kilt from Rev War re-ennacting is green/black Black Watch)
