I have been shooting one for several years now. Savage 110 with 26" Shaw varmit barrel and also have a 264 mag but the 6.5 will do the same with less powder.

I think the question got answered- well- but I've always wondered why the 6.5 Mag never had a better go of it. It seems like one of the good ones, perhaps before its time.

I just bought a M673 Guide in 6.5 mm Rem Mag. Pushing the 120 gr BT at 3100 fps and the 125 gr PT at 3050 fps from a 22" barrel. Cool little round that was way before its time. JD338

I have the same guide gun and it shoots the 120 sierra bulletinto about .750 groups at 200 yards. Originally told my wife it was for her. I lied but i let her use it .LOL ED K

The 264 mag is king of the 6.5's, it is also the best long range antelope cartridge ever developed.

I'll bet that double breasted bed thrasher in the picture out performs the 6.5 and 264 at close range.
