She won't be tearing up my bird feeders or stealing dog food anymore!

I relocated her 30 miles away at a nice spot on a lake. By all appearances she had weaned her last liter. I'm pretty sure there will be more.

BTW did I mention my dog is worthless...

TO a nice lake or IN one? grin

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Only 30 miles? Keep the trap set. She'll be back.

PDS,

Good job. We are having similar invaders plus armadillos and squirrels. I have borrowed a live trap. What was the bait?

I used to run a packa of Walker Hounds and have killed a few coons in my day. NOW?... We have a family of three that come and get dog food pretty regularly. We bring the dogs in at night and let the coons have a treat and enjoy seeng them.

I've used the Marlin 39 to dispatch them many a time. Although I usually try to discourage them first. Had one which was so persistent to get at the cat's food on the porch. I chased it away four times in a short 10 minute period. Then I opened the living room window when it was sneaking below it the fifth time, and doused it with a 5 gal bucket full of cold water. The sixth time I chased it to one of our big oaks and whacked it hard in the back with a 3/4" water pipe several times until it climbed out of reach. When it came back again for a seventh try, that's when the Marlin 39 spoke.

My neighbor did the same thing, only he moved the coon only about two miles. I told him that the coon are telling their buddies, "Hey, I found this really great place to eat, and you even get a ride home!" Needless to say, he didn't think that was too funny.

I'd say a move of thirty miles may do it. But I would have made the move a little more permanent. smirk

The bait was caned cat food. I'd prefer to use .22 shorts but the neighbors would complain to the HOA.

I have no shortage of critter visitors. I have seen at least three different coons looking in through the window on my back door. I need to relocate them before they find a way into my attic or chimney.

Squirrels I can take care of with the pellet rifle. The coyotes can't get over the backyard fence. The bobcat comes around occasionally but he doesn't tear up anything and isn't likely to take up residence.

Did I mention that my dog is useless? He doesn't even chase the rabbits.

Dear Mr. prairie dog shooter,

My office has just been retained by a Mrs. Raque Coon. She is suing you for false imprisonment, humiliation, kidnapping, slander and a general bias against wildlife in general.

According to Mrs. Coon, she was on a journey to her grandmother's den when your dog, Worthless, was just finishing up his food. He told her he couldn't stand having his master pay more attention to a bunch of silly birds than to him, so he threatened to harm Mrs. Coon's babies if she didn't cooperate.

She had no choice but to agree with your Worthless dog. He gave her a "Lone Ranger" type mask to wear for added concealment, and after tearing up your bird feeders, under duress I might add, she was maliciously apprehended by you.

According to Mrs. Coon, she tried to explain, but you were irate and Worthless was well.....worthless in her defense!

I will be in touch,

Jerome J. Justice, Jr.

The Indians considered coon some of the best eatin' there was. I favor them in a stew (the raccoons that is, the Indians I invite over to help feast).

In FL, it's against the law to transport a live coon. That doesn't leave me much choice.

You can't fix stupid, but you can filter it out of the gene pool.
