It'll be hard getting brass for it since the cartridge is obsolete but who here can say they've got enough Savages.

New brass and new loaded ammo is available for the 300. Also the 300 is loaded to higher pressures resulting in higher velocity. The 303 is not factory loaded, brass and ammo is not as easy to find, and the 303 is very similar to a 30-30 in ballistics. 303s sometimes sell for less because of the ammo concerns. If you reload and would like another 99, go for the 303. If you hunt, and want to hunt with one rifle, I think the 300 is better. YMMV I just bought a 303 because I didn't I have a 303 and I didn't have a rifle with that serial number.

Mt wife has been more than tolerant of my addictions over the years. Once , when I brought home a firearm that looked similar to one ( or more ) that I already had, she asked why I had purchased the new one. I told her I didn't have one with that serial number. She hasn't asked that question again. Our second date was to a shooting range. I thought that if she didn't like shooting/firearms, no more dates. To be fair to her, she has purchased one or more firearms for me every year since we have been married. I am ( mostly ) happily married to a loving, wonderful , tolerant woman.

Every person that owns a Savage lever gun should be on the quest for at least one of each in all the Savage calibers. It's just the right thing to do.

The .303 is a .30-30 on steroids and a great whitetail round. The lightweights like the old F and H are super brush guns. Mine will go hunting this Fall for sure.

If you handload, the .303 is a piece of cake. I'll sell you new brass for $24 per 20. If you don't load hot they will last a long, long time.

you must own at least one 303 or you are not yet a 99 man. don't worry about ammo. it will just show up like magic after you buy one. it will be everywhere. I even had some given to me by a man that sold his rifle years ago and the new owner diden't want the ammo. when he found out I had one he gave me 3 boxes. I'm down to 1 again and it's too accurate to sell. I just sold the sweetest little H to one of the members here and it is also very accurate...shoulda kept it...(heel of hand smacks the forehead)

Yes, brass and or ammo has never been a limiting factor. One MUST reload, and then everything becomes possible.

Planning on picking of a 9.3x57 VERY soon.

you get a 303 if you can't get anything else, if it's a user,
I prefer Featherweights in 308

Then you have people like me that plan on using their 303 on Elk. I know, but there have been many Elk killed with a 30-30, so why not use my 303. Les

I bought my first 303 a year ago, and since that time I have acumulated over 300 rounds of brass and loaded ammo. Just check every little old gun shop you run across. You'll find some. And like the guys say, you have to reload. I bought another 303 this summer and I got 4 boxes of loaded ammo and 20 pieces of brass. It's out there.

My very first 99, over fifty years ago, was a .303 EG. I put a 2.5x Stith on it in Stith Streamline mounts and it shot well under 2" five shot groups at 100 yards, excellent for the time. I foolishly sold it but in recently found another, made in 1941, mint bore and 99% outside, without d&t, and will be setting up the same scope rig. In the old days before WWII the .303 99 was a favorite moose rifle in Maine and eastern Canada, much liked for its superior penetration over the .30-30. Ammunition is not easy to find these days but it does turn up at gun shows. I recommend it highly.
