Amazing what a Savage rifle loaded with Berger bullets will do, you shot some exceptional trophies, looking forward to hearing the different stories about your hunts..... congrats! Yeah, a 'defective one' at that

slg888..........Thanks for your PM to me. Great pics.
Well looky here,,,and looky here some more now! 155 VLDs uh? Now wait just a minute here. According to the many VLD detractors by their postings, only a "lighter" 30 cal VLDs should at the most be restricted to deer sized game. And I`ve read, where many won`t even use the VLDs at all on "any" game.
Your pics are just another valid testimony, proving the devastating killing effectiveness of the VLDs.
My bull elk had the same quick ending from a single 190 VLD, not to mention over 50 hogs using the lighter 168s, each killed with a single shot where no tracking was needed.
Great job in Africa.
Those VLDs should have just bounced off the kudu. Why hell, them targeeeet bullets can`t do thaaaaaeeeeet!....LOL!

Nice pictures...looks like quite an adventure. Africa must be quite the country for different kinds of wild animals.

Congrats Stoney! Looks (and sounds) like a fantastic adventure. Good thing you're back, I was worried you wouldn't get a chance at 300mag's March scope in the classifieds. Thought you were buying it Scott?? LOL!!!

PH said it was called 'Puff Adder & was pretty damn poisonous. BF Goodrich was responsible for killing it. Don't know my snakes very well, but heard the 'Mambas were the most feared. Curious if anyone ever encountered a 'Mamba when hunting Africa?

Stoney,
Glad your loads worked well for you. I know you put a lot of thought into your selection.
Shot placement trumps all and a pleasant cartridge sure helps with the placement.
Again well done.

There are some horror stories about the puff adder, and I am most happy to never have seen one. We were belly crawling to get close to a black wildebeast and a green snake crawled in front of me. I jumped up scared spitless and shot it in half. Full penetration with 185 gr tsx at 2900 no bullet recovered. It was only a small green grass snake so they said, but I am major phobic about snakes. That was the end of the belly crawling for me. The stalk was busted as well but we caught up with the old boy later in the day.

Curious if anyone ever encountered a 'Mamba when hunting Africa? Ive encountered a number of snakes while in Africa( we went early last time just so I could find some snakes...) but the Mambas have always been encountered by my buds... I find everything else..they find mambas...guess its a " be careful what you wish for.." scenario...

I used to study snakes when a kid and thought that was a Puff...VERY dangerous no doubt, as mamba's but one thing I do know, there are alot of venomous species in Africa so I would deem all dangerous Might have made a good 'wrap' on a sling!
