Its been done, its called the 260 Weller. Mr. Weller from Stayton ,OR did it about 5 years ago with a 26 inch Pac-Nor barrel, RCBS dies and load testing at Nosler. It produced nearly 3400 fps with a 140 grain Partition, Fed 215 primers and AA8700 powder. It was built as a long range elk rifle. I liked shooting it. PM me if you want Weller's phone number.

The case would have a bit greater capacity than the std. 264 win. that's for sure. I wonder if the additional velocity would be enough to justify the expense of the custom dies, etc. Also, any oddball catridge like that becomes a white elephant if you ever try to sell it.
Unless of course you happen to find the right looney.....

Not trying to get off the subject here.
What or how does the Dakota case compare to a 300 win mag case in capacity?

Good question......There is not much info in the references that I have. Comparing data in Nosler #5, it looks like the Dakota may have 4-6 gr. more capacity, but that's just a WAG.

Jim,
The 7mm Dakota has a case capacity of 95 grains of water. The 300 Win mag has a case capacity of 90.36 grains of water. YOur SWAG was a good one.

Why not a straight up 7mm Dakota. A 162gr A-Max has a B.C. of about .625 and will kill anything in the states handily. I know because I've done it! Keep in mind I rarely shoot under 100 yds in the areas I hunt. If you do I'd recomend the 160 Accubond as a great all around bullet! Do yourself a favor and run the numbers on the above combo!
I'm currently working on a 7-300 WSM w/8" twist to handle the A-max. Everything under the sun will eventually die with this rifle/bullet combo. The Dakota is just more of the same..................

OK, here we go......................
Rem 700 SS short action Gretan firing pin assembly SS Jewell trigger Wyatts extended mag box Holland thick recoil lug Pac-Nor Super match SS #4, fluted, 3 groove, 1-8" twist, 26" HS sporter stock (14.5" LOP) green/tan camo skim bedded with steel bed. Leupold 4.5 x14x50 LR Tactical Nightforce 20 MOA base Nightforce alloy rings (cats ass)! Graphite black cerekote on all metal except machined areas which includes flutes of the barrel, bolt (helical), skeletonized bolt handle, and crown.
This rifle has already been dubbed "High Plains Drifter" but will not earn the name untill I've killed a pile of pronghorn, elk, and mulies with it!

I will when it's finished. All the metal work is done but I have to get it off to Fit 4 Duty for coating and then back to my smith for stock install and bedding. Stay tuned............. BTW, it should come in around 9Lbs.
