Since I'm moving to Quemado ("kee-MAH-doe") on the western edge of New Mexico, I'm especially interested in who here at the 'fire lives not so far away in western New Mexico or eastern Arizona, in particular.

The more Campfire guys whom I can come to know in person, the happier this Old Man will be. I hope we can have a barbecue or some other kind of shindig in Quemado some day soon. I'd really love that!

I'll be a long time getting everything moved, unpacked, in order, etc, but any day when I'm not on the road is right for Campfire visits.

No 'phone yet. I'll let you know when I get one.

Ken, love that part of NM, spent a lot of time around Datil and Luna. More elk than people in that part of the country.

What happened to the Sacramento Mountains? Thought that was your desto.

A rancher "friend" reneged on his promise to donate twenty acres (which he couldn't use) for the Powley Center, so I had to find a place that I could buy. One 140-acre place that I could afford is easily accessible only by horse or helicopter. An eighty-acre second choice has a road that's an axle-buster going in (down-hill) and a four-wheel-drive affair coming out (up-hill). Unable to find acreage that's both adequate and affordable, I had to settle for now on a place for the ol' bones to rest out of the weather while I work on getting several books and a passel of articles ready for print.

If I'd found suitable acreage on this trip, I was ready to live in a tent until I had the Powley Center built. Now, I hope that by being local, I can be better attuned to what becomes available when I have another wad of dough for a suitable piece of land.

... if I live long enough.

Hey neighbor,by our Western standards,I'm just over the hill from you.......S.E. Az., in the infamous, dread, Hereford district,....( lotta this recent hysteria is just that,we've had illegals gettin' handouts at our back doors here ,for years). We've got a good range, and I'm involved in putting on two rifle tournaments monthly.

Would like to assist with Powley Center project,in any way feasible.............and there's a fair bit of space, with attendant impact areas, and fairly decent roads,in this zone. Most importantly , there's a relatively strong "Old Code" mentality ,when it comes to shooting sports.

I've got a portable welding show, and a small machine shop, just SE of Sierra Vista. If Yer of a mind, Drop in and enjoy the innimicable luxury of a true "bachelor's paradise".
(I let my dog do the "rinse cycle" on the dishes)....nice garden, and a spare set of quarters.

The range is visible ( 15 min drive)....off to the E, across the San Pedro River valley. Right now we're gettin' RAIN....finally,on a late Monsoon...It's a beautiful 69 degrees F, and that's quite a break, after last month.

This is a "wind Doper's" paradise, and a great place to shoot,in general.

Keep us in the loop as to your progress on the move.......Pace yourself,.... and if I'm headed up to Raton, will drop in.

Got some good poop on shooting facilities, and progressive development thereof, When you get a chance....PM, and we'll further define.

Work Safe, travel safe.....GTC

Well shoot! I was looking forward to an opportunity to buying you a cup o'joe whilst visiting friends in Victor and Hamilton!
Hmmm, how am I gonna do this now...

Wish I could tote a box for you. Best wishes Sir, and watch out for the nitwits, halfwits, and dimwits on the road. Would love a hamburger and pie critique 'tween MT and NM! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Check my old address (407 Spring Street) and 'phone number (406-777-2878) in Stevensville. I'm going to be back and forth between MT and NM addresses for months, I'm afraid.

Hi Mr. Howell, I live down here in Silver City, and have now for 2 years. Love this area, I can go into the desert or up in the Gila. The Vermont weather finally drove us out. Maybe we can cross paths someday.

Add me to your list Dr. Howell.
Glad things worked out for you to join us down here.

Let me know if you need help with a survey for your property or the range itself. I'm glad to donate to your cause.

Be careful, & best wishes.

Hi, Ken.

Looks like we are neighbors! I live just down the road (Hwy 60) from you in Magdalena. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just bought a 9x12-ft cargo trailer yesterday and will be loading it today and tomorrow morning. Hope to arrive in Quemado again some time Thursday afternoon, 4 August (closing on the house Friday, 5 August). May be there through Monday (8th). So don't anybody come 'round if you don't feel up to helping me tote boxes of books from the trailer into the house.

Then, after I get a few things hooked-up, it's back on the road again for another load.

Ken, if I was closer I would be over there in a heart beat to help you move. I have a strong back and weak mind.

Ken, if you had a phone, it would be easier to find out for sure your in "kee-MAH-doe" before making a long trip to help you. Do you think Quemado is a spanish or indian word/name?

Quemado is Spanish for burnt.

I'll be there this weekend from Friday into early next week (4 8 or longer). Then it's back to here (Montana) for another load. Don't know, yet, whether I'll make another trip down before the 23rd. Planning to be there 2328 (or longer).

Had hoped to leave here at 0-dark-30 this morning, but here it is nearly five p m already, and I'm still loading the trailer. Rats! Loading is awfully slow when you're falling as often as I do and have as much struggle to get up as I do. Ah, well this thing may kill me, but it ain't gonna lick me!

Dr. Howell,
Add me as well to your list. I, too, am down in Silver City. Glad to have you out here and hope your move goes well.
