I have a 1911 Kimber Custom Target, and am thinking that, for my combined B-day/X-mas in the fall, I am going to want to have the rear slide face and the front grip strap checkered. Who would y'all recommend for this, and what can I expect to pay?

I had Jim Stroh/Alpha Precision Gunsmithing do some metal checkering for me, I was well satisfied with Jim's work. Jim will give you a date when he will work on your gun, you can send your gun a week to ten days before that date and get it back soon afterwards. This system makes the wait seem a lot shorter, and your gun is not at the 'smiths waiting in line. Alpha Precision is a one man shop, Jim is a member of the Pistolsmith's Guild and has been "Gunsmith of the Year". His work is top quality, fairly priced and he is a real gentleman to deal with.

I have a Kimber Eclipse with the front strap done at 30 LPI versus the more common 20 LPI. The finer checkering provides a sure grip without being uncomfortable.
