Thinking about getting a Browning BLR. I have a model 99 Savage, whick is a great rifle. Wanting a Blr in 30/06. Just wanting to know if anyone has/had one. What were the likes and dislikes. I like lever actions myself and would like to get another "lifetime" rifle that will last that long.

I have a Lighting model in 30-06. I like it, it handles great, points great (I just use the open sights). I like the longer length of pull because I am 6'4 it fits great.

I have the pistol grip BLR 30-06. Nice rifle, heavy unit, cycles fine, the magazine can be hit or miss on locking in 100% of the time unless you really pay attention, trigger sucks, and the accuracy is just ok (bigger than a golf ball size group at 100 yards).

The BAR is a more accurate rifle.

My 1895 30-06 with iron sights is a better choice if you don't need optics, lighter to carry, loads easy, trigger is consistent and its accurate.

The BLR's in short action calibers handle better than those in long action.

Love love love the BLRs however the long action ones just handle awkward.

I have both a Savage 99 and a BLR in .308 Win. Much prefer the 99 but the BLR is much shorter and quite accurate. Trigger is pretty mushy and I don't like the removable magazine. Still the BLR is more than ok.Don't like the long actions as good as the short actions.

Very much liked my BLR in 7mm-08. Regret selling it. I too feel the short action is the way to go. Unless you're married to the .30-06, why not a .308 Win?

If you feel that you need a 30 cal hotter than a .308, how about a WSM.

Just purchased a used pistol-grip BLR in .358 Win. from another Campfire member. Gun is heavy, trigger has no creep or overtravel but is about 10lb break. Accury with factory load is about 1.25 inches @ 100 yds. Stock is a cheek biter off the bench. If trigger pull can be dropped to 5 lb or so I'll be happy with the gun. I'd purchase another one. Never had a 99 so can't compare the two.

I have a BLR 81 Lightweight in .30-06. It weighs right at 8 pounds with a 4x Leupold and the trigger is crisp, breaking around 4.5 pounds. It shoots about anything into 1" for 3 shots at 100 yards.

I also have a couple of friends with BLR's, one a 7mm-08 and one a .358. Both shoot very well!

The triggers aren't hard to fix if they aren't what's desired.

I have a Belgian made BLR in .308 and it is very accurate. I had three different BLR's in .358 Win and all had difficulty extracting factory 250 grain Win ammo. Current .308 loaded to load manual max or firing older Fed HE 180 grain ammo has not had that problem.

I have BLR 358 striaght grip stock 2 x 7 leupold. My reloads average 1 to 1/1/2 with Win brass Hornady 200 grain inerlocks, Win large rifle primers and 48 grains H4895. No problem with recoil or extracting rounds.

I have same setup and get same results except I use IMR4320. Very pleased with my BLR.

I have several Sav 99's, but no BLR. I would look very close at the BLR in .30 WSM. Mayhap the best answer to the long/short action arguement.

Add my second to the 300WSM. My 3 BLR's shoots very good. My 300WSM with H48895 and 150 GK's shoots sub moa. I like that one can load her down to about a velocity of 2825. Very close to 308 performance and still take her up to 300 mag levels. It would shoot better than .75 if I was a more steady fellow. Great rifle with flexibility.. My 2 cents - Lwr308

Got a Pre '81 (1979 the one with the funny shaped mag.) in .358 Win. Wears a Nikon Monarch 2x7x32 and shoots Hornady 200g PSP's into 1.25". Awesome for hogs and whitetails in the woods. Handy little rifle.

I just ordered a lightweight BLR in 7mm-08. Not that I really need one, but wanted to try it out.

I have a 308 PG takedown. So far, using 125 B-tips it is accurate but the 20" BBL is only clocking 2850 fps with full power (compresses 748) loads. I think I will pretend it is a 30/40 Krag and load 170 partitions @ 2500. So well stocked for sights, I probably will not scope it, but I have had and like verymuch Scout scoped guns.

What exactly needs to be done to the trigger to improve it? Mine is heavy and spongy, would love to improve it. Have gotten really good accuracy when I can work through the trigger
