I've got four.

two 7-08s, one 257 Roberts, and one 358 STA.

I'm probably done with the custom route. Next one will be a cooper and I don't really plan to add more any time soon.

As a gunsmith I have built several custom rifles for myself, over the years I've sold all of them. My current favorite custom rifle is a Griffin & Howe .35 Whelen built on a pre '64 Winchester M/70 action, I plan to take it deer hunting this fall.

I currently have 6 full custom rifles in my safe. Of these 2 were built for others by top smiths, 2 were built by me for me, and 2 I ordered built for me from other smiths.

Sardonically amusing to imagine an ascetic with a custom rifle. Poor chap.

I have 15 rifles that at least ONE of the people who's posted so far would call customs, but only four have synthetic stocks.

The discussion of what a custom rifle is and is not has turned out to be very interesting. All of my rifles would qualify by some standards.

One of my synthetic stock rifles was built to my specs on a Remington 700 action, with the barrel and stock I wanted--and I co-designed the wildcat cartridge. Does it qualify, even though it's just a restocked, rebarreled factory rifle?

With the exception of the very few off-the-rack rifles that Melvin Forbes started offering a couple of years ago, NULA's are built to customer specifications, including barrel length, weight, material and finish; stock length of pull and paint job--and even other dimensions if so desired; and choice of chambering, including just about any wildcat. Are they really factory rifles?

Some of my walnut-stocked rifles were built for somebody else, and I bought them used. But they definitely aren't factory rifles. Do they still qualify as custom?

I have seen rifles listed on the Campfire Classifieds as "custom" that were all-factory except for an after-market synthetic stock or a rebarrel job. These satisfy one of the owner's whims, but are they really custom? If not, does the .30-40 Krag O/U double rifle I have, built on a Ruger Red Label 20-gauge frame, really qualify as custom? It's essentially just a rebarrel job on a factory firearm.
