What a great problem you have. As for the second rifle, the wood alone is worth more than $125, even if it needs refinishing.

Jlin222, You may be right. I've kinda used this as a guide. I don't know where it originated. Butch

OK guys and gals...the second one is in my hands now. The wood is very nice! The actions are identical. The metal on both is in about the same condition...darn near perfect! The ONLY thing that shows a lack of blue is where the top wooden handguard once set over the very end of the ring...right above the Mexican Crest, there is a shiny place. The bolts are in the white, but both are silky smooth. Both were sportsterized, by replacing the original wood with very nice figured Monte' Carlo stocks. The only thing that would make them nicer is if I had the original stocks with them. Not bad for a $250.00 investment and a 1/2 mile trip,,,make that a mile. I had to go twice...one trip per rifle, and he lives a quarter-mile from me.
I really appreciate all of the assistance that you have all given to me. I need to try to figure out how I can put pics of these things up, so that you can at least get a look at them. Every time I try to put up a pic, it says something about being the wrong size or too many pixels ...can't remember exactly what that msg was. I tried to show a pic of my wood carving once, and it wouldn't let me post it.
Also have an old 1944 Long Branch SMLE that looks fine that I would like to share.
Thanks!

Thank goodness! I can breathe again! I'm glad you got the second one, too. I am jealous, of course, but happy for you. With a few slight modifications you will have a pair of first-class custom sporters that would make any gun loony proud.
One of my dearest possessions is a beautiful Springfield custom sporter given to me by an old gentleman-friend shortly before he passed away. It is very nice that you have your grandson in mind for one of these rifles. This rifle is worthy of becoming a heritage gun in your family.

You might find help here: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...96239/How_to_post_your_photos#Post696239Its where I got started. In particular, the second post brings up the need to resize. Would love to see pictures of these rifles.

Thanks Al. I'll see what I can do. I got the pukes last night...was trying to watch the old John Wayne version of True Grit when it hit me. Not only puking, but could have crapped through a screen door at 20 paces too. Spent most of the day abed. Hopefully, it's only a 24 hour thing, but I still aint up to snuff.
I'll look at the link and make sure the batteries in my camera are good. Might be tomorrow.

Butch,
I have seen this list before. It is very useful! But I found another inaccuracy, like the one about the BRNO ZG47, and is refering on the 1935 Argentine. It is NOT AN INTERMIDIATE TYPE VI action. It is a Standard TYPE I M98 Mauser.
Thanks!

How I missed this I don't know. Have a couple of the SR Mexicans. One is a 1910 that I stocked, the other is a 1936 cobbled together over several years as money allowed. 1910 in 6.5x55, Claro walnut: 1936 in .275 Rigby, stocked by Robert Szweda, bastogne walnut:

I'm drooling over the 1910!

Hokey-Dokey I'm going to try and load a pic or two. I am following the directions from above, and I thank you for your help. Here goes: Mexican Mauser #1 Carving on stock of 280 Remington done while heavily medicated. My very first try. It was done 22 years ago, so it's a bit worn: Other side of 280:

OK. I got my son to help me take some pics of the 2nd Mauser. Now we can't find the little cable that connects the dadgum camera to the computer. The pics of Mauser #1 were already in a file on the computer. I'll try to find the cable. I have too much stuff around my desk.
