Scott F,
I hear Remington is making a 1911 as well. What about a Remington?
I would take the $21.04 and buy a Buck Knife!
I have also heard that a can of oven cleaner sprayed into the eyes is a good option when you have no handgun.
Anyone who has taken a Statistics class knows that if you make one thousand of something, that there is a high probability that a few will be perfect, and a few that need to be melted down.

Until then I think I will carry my RIA that has worked flawlessly for the first 1200 or so rounds. If I need it and it fails then I guess that is OK. There will just be one less disabled guy to waste valuable O2. The world will be better off with my passing.

Scott, as over the top as Bricktop is with his rude behavior (he can make a point without being so obnoxious), so is your comment about an early dismissal from this world. That is just silly. This is only the Internet and to get so worked up over the words of someone you dont know and has no direct influence or importance in your life isnt healthy. Forget it, take a breath, feel the sunshine and smell the roses, think of the important people in your life and smile because life is good despite what someone may tell you on the Internet. It is good to have you around here posting; I enjoy reading about your experiences.

You know, Colts went through a real slump where I really didnt think new Colts were worth the money. But after test driving the .38 Super XSE LW Commander, I have to say...If I had to do it all over again, Id buy the Colts instead of the S&W I have been packing for the past 8 years.

Thank you Sir for the kind words. My comment was intended in the direction that in spite of Bricktops comments I am going to continue to carry my RIA. It works. If I ever get into a situation where it has to work I believe it will do the job. If not then I would be a goner anyway. Odes are I will never get into such a situation anyway.

Hi Scott,

I'd say the risks are that at some point the gun will fail from continued use. I have a Llama 45 for sale that my gunsmith says will probably work fine up to a few thousand rounds, then suffer from metal fatigue due to poor quality steel. My brother is on his second Bersa Thunder .380, after the first one failed at about 3,000 rounds. In his world, that's a reliable gun for the money. I've got a Taurus 92F that will probably be good for 10X that (more than I'll ever run through it). I don't carry (as of Thursday, I live in the only state out of 50 with no CC provision), but I would say the RIA will be reliable if you don't pump lots of ammo through it. Of course, by doing that you contradict a basic rule of self-defense (tons and tons of practice). To me, it's "to each his own." If I was going to run thousands of rounds through it, I'd want a gun known for higher quality. I own several Taurus handguns and they are all robust. I've heard the EAA Witness line is very robust also. These are both lower-cost options with reputations for higher quality materials and manufacturing.

In the meantime, your RIA 45 will put a big hole in whatever you point it at.

Now you are holding out on an answer on what you think it is best I do.

Gas costs money I do not have. I turned off the forge but it was plenty hot to render my 1911 safe.

What should I buy and what should I do without to do so? What is a good 1911?

I am no expert and you say you are. Are you holding out for money? Do I have to pay you for an answer?
I'll have to get with my professional organization ...

Scott:

Shoot your RIA until it begins to show signs of puking. Might take you a while.

Then get another 1911.

Good advice. Then jump on a Springfield next time if you can round up the additional coin, and shoot the crapola out of it too. smile

The SR1911 I handled at a Scheel's store had one of the worst triggers I've ever encountered on a 1911, creepy as all get out. The rest of the gun seemed pretty nice though. Think I'll stick with my Springfield Range Officer for the time being.
