My wife has a mark v SS synthetic that I like but even I think it is too heavy and she doesn't like carrying it. I just pick up a #5 contour hart in 270 wby and am trying to decide what to do with it. If I use it as is I think that I will end up with another heavy rifle but the balance will be quite a bit different than the wby rifle. I am tempted to have hart flute it or recontour, any ideas?

As far as the chambering, I really like it. Have dropped numerous elk and mule deer with it. I have shot both 130 partitions and barnes factory with it at a little over moa. I am running 130s out of it now at 3500.

Nice looking rig, perhaps I missed it but who's tube is on it?

I personally dig the 270 Wby and if I weren't such a devotee of the 7 mashburn Super I would be heavy in the 270 Roy camp.

Very nice rig you've got there.

I guess I forgot to mention, It's a Douglas barrel. This rifle started off as somebody else's project, but I guess he ran out of money so the barreled action sat at the gunsmith for a few years, and eventually he agreed to sell it for what he owed the gunsmith, and the deal was passed on to me.
Couldn't refuse at the time, and I'm glad I put the effort into finishing the project.

Luv those Wby's & the 270 cal.
Well so much I'm waiting on a 270Wby Ultramark [Linked Image]
Here's a taste of why Weatherby are the best in the business at making the finest wood/rifles for your hard-earned$$$ IMO.
This is the 257Wby Ultramark.

I love the 270 wby. The one negitive is the wieght of the rifles. I've been toying with the idea of building a lighter sporter.
Here is my hunting load. It chronies right at 3250 and seems like a mild load.

Here is the rifle.

Rogue,what stock is that?

Did it go lighter?

Slip-in fit?

I have a Ultralight MkV in 270wby, which I really like.
It shoots the 140grain TSX @3300fps into bughole groups(when I do my part!). A very nice mule deer getter!!

I was bloody close to buying one of these.

Ended up ordering the Ultramark this time around, but another Wby cal wont be to far off I imagine.

One of the reasons I gave it a miss was I've never had the chance to play around with any of the Ultralight range [Linked Image] .
I'm sure they are as sweet as icing sugar(Being a Wby Mark V),but I never buy unless I've tried.

What are your thought's regarding your Ultralights?

Cheers [Linked Image] .

Tez,
I really think highly of my ultralight.
The only drawback that I can see is that skinny little barrel heats up quick. So when I am shooting groups off of the bench I give plenty of time between shots to allow the barrel to cool, otherwise the groups open up quick!
Other than that, cannot think of a single drawback. It is light, weather resistant, and shoots very well indeed.

Personally I am a big fan of the Wby rounds, however I am not a fan of the Wby rifles.

A blondes, brunette and redhead kind of thing I guess.

I have considered many times to have a reamer made without the Weatherby freebore. Now that the Accubonds are made in 2 weights for that bore, it is even more tempting than ever. Of course liken to Mark, a Remington custom works for me much more better.

I've a tang safety Ruger in 300 mag I may eventually convert to a 270 wby. I always considered the 270 wby the ultimate deer rifle cartridge.

Aggie-that would/could well be a good move. I'd have it cut without the freebore and be on my merry shooting way.

I always thought that the Rem 700 LSS would be nice in the 340 and 270wbys. Call me crazy but I like that platform in the ultramags-maybe someday I will get a couple of them rebarreled to my favorite roy calibers-sans freebore.

My first 340 was on my old 700, it was a 4.5 weight Schneider, it had no freebore and it would shoot 5/250's consistently into .75".

It was a truly gamely rig and a great yote gun...grins

Yup- it was a big time shooter and a wonderful game getter. I even tried to bring it into Sonora but the Federales wouldn't allow it.

That was b4 the 200 NBT or the 180 NBT, I would of loved to of beaten up on some game with said combo. I have taken out quite a few chucks/yotes/pds with the combo on my old M70.

Mark,
What action is your current 340 built on?
BTW you really ought to give a 270Roy a whirl sometime, 3300(or better) with a 140 grain bullet is nice!

Tim-it is on a M70, with a 25" 4.5 weight Schneider.

I like the 270 Roy, I've used them b4 a fair bit. If I wasn't such a nut for the 7 Mashburn Super I would take a long hard look at doing the 270 Wby on my old 700.
